Dear Members,
In the last “All Members” note of early August mention was made of a new, and credible, offer to buy Brookfield golf Club as a going concern. At the time there was a real feeling of confidence that this significant offer would be sufficient to secure the future of the club once and for all. Unfortunately this has not proven to be the case with the Reade family turning this offer down.
Instead they have decided to take up the other offer on the table, and to sell the clubhouse and some adjoining land; the offer we have known about for some time. By taking up this offer the golf course will close.
We met with the family over the week-end and they confirmed that they were looking to sign the above agreement on the 5th of September or as soon as possible thereafter. Once the agreement has been signed the club will close. We know from Land Registry searches that a bank or possible banks hold
charges over the Brookfield land so any sale will also need the approval of these bodies. We still hold a small hope that they will prefer to accept an offer for the entirety of the golf club as a going concern. We also understand that full planning applications will be required both for any housing development and for returning the remaining land back to agricultural use. One might expect strong opposition to any such applications.
Should the golf club course close then any monies paid in advance, such as subscriptions would need to be recovered from the Reade family. Similarly members should cancel any standing order instructions.Members may also wish to remove any property stored at the club, for example lockers etc.
We are also sorry to tell members that because of the continuing uncertainty over the future of the club Rob Ashbrook has tendered his resignation and will leave the club at the end of August. Rob has been the heartbeat of the club since it opened and it is a great pity that he has found it necessary to leave.
We wish him well for the future.
In conclusion, we wish you all the very best for the future and are sorry that despite everyone’s best efforts we have been unable to convince the family that the golf club was worth saving.
Best wishes
