As promised we bring you the results of the Horsley United FC end of season awards, following the presentation held at our ever reliable local The Hog.
Chairman Kevin Drew opened with a typically impassioned speech about the club's 113 years of history and the squad's fight towards the end of the season. We want to build on stablising for two years in Division One and push to as high in the table as we can get. He confirmed that after many years of loyal service as club secretary, Matty Whittall will be stepping down. Chris Bull takes up the reigns to hopefully administer a successful and well run club.
Joe Thurston dominated the First Team awards, scooping both Player's and Manager's Player of the Season. His reliability and dedication has converted into great improvements on the pitch, leaving little question that he deserved the recognition. Ben Beardshaw won Supporter's Player of the Year for his impressive performances in his second full season with the First Team. It was noted by all how touching it was the inseparable pair had matching awards.
Reserve Team Player of the Season voting was incredibly tight, but the award went to permanent vice captain and all around ray of sunshine Neil Squibb. Squibby also picked up most appearances – very much the first name on the teamsheet, as he always replies to messages first! As well as his consistency, he was also top scorer for the team. Joel Avery picked up Manager's Player not only for a great, tenacious season on the pitch but also for all his help and support behind the scenes which is massively appreciated.
Ahead of preseason we are looking to arrange a charity game in memory of Kevin Pride – more details should follow soon. We then look forward to gearing up for next season, onwards and upwards!
