Tuesday dance and drama, it is Christmas tee shirts and jumpers this week & next week, normal class times both weeks.
Wednesday dance & drama, we have the Winter Warmer display for all dancers tomorrow at 3:30pm, but no classes. Next week classes will run as usual. Christmas tee shirts and jumpers both weeks.

Well, that's it, my last ever show is over. I really can't believe it. It was a real joy, an incredibly moving afternoon and a fabulous ending. I have had a truly magical career - when you feel that your job is actually the best hobby you could ever ask for, it doesn't feel like going to work, more like "going out to play" and I am going to miss all my playmates and all the people who have been there for me: Sue, Becky, Jack, Ken, Leanne, Steve, Toby, Lin, Brian, Yvette, David and Jonathan. Plus everyone else who has helped in so many ways over the years. To all our students (past & present), thank you for your trust in us, we love every one of you and will miss you so much. To past members and helpers who are no longer in this world, we will remember you hold you in our hearts forever. Thank you to all the parents, carers and support staff who have brought the students to class and who have changed shifts and duties to make sure all the performers got to the theatre and home safely afterwards. I personally and we, as a team, truly appreciate you!

Farewell

It is with deep regret that after more than 25 years of dance and drama classes in North Somerset, I have taken the extremely difficult decision to retire at Christmas.

I have thought long and hard about this decision but I do feel this is the right time. I have had a number of health issues over the past few years and I am extremely conscious that I no longer have the energy or flexibility that I had when I started out.

To all my family and helpers

I have been extremely fortunate to have such an amazing family and friends who have worked so hard over the years to help make the classes and shows what they are. I could not have managed without you.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. You are totally what has made us what we are! I love and admire each one of you for the unique talents you have brought to every aspect of the work we have done.

To all students - past and present

I can say, without any reservations whatsoever that I have had an amazing time with every one of you. You are all in my heart forever.

I have seen some wonderful changes in you - particularly in self-confidence, self-determination, decision making, team work and creative expression as well as strength, flexibility and balance. It has been an honour and a privilege to work with you.

I have known and worked with some of you almost since our first class in the late 1990's. I have been honoured to be a part of your life as you've grown and changed from tiny children to the most wonderful adults.

I have been truly blessed both as a person and a dance teacher with every character and personality that has walked into one of our classes. I have such wonderful memories and will treasure them always.

I wish each and every one of you a very happy and successful future.

All students in Nailsea groups. Ravenswood school fayre tomorrow, please arrive at the school by 12.30pm. If anyone needs to leave drama early tomorrow to have lunch etc, that's no problem. We will be finished by 2pm at the very latest.

We are back! At long last, all classes will be fully running from tomorrow onwards. Can't wait to see everyone again.

I just wanted to let everyone know what the current situation is regarding our classes. Although we could potentially open again it is only in the most restrictive terms. Under dance school rules we have to carry out a full risk assessment before starting up again. The rules are laid out in clear terms including a 2 meter square marked out on the floor for a dancer to work in, they are not allowed to move out of this space. There must then be a 1 metre gap around each square. Obviously this spacing means that class sizes will be restricted depending on the size of the hall, however on top of that each class is restricted to a maximum of 15 including any and all staff. Each group must be in a bubble meaning that the same students must be together for every session. This means if you have a group of 10 but 2 dancers will be absent one week you cannot replace them with students from another bubble to make up the numbers. The whole hall (including the floor and all touchable surfaces must be cleaned between every session. This means additional time will need to be booked between every class to allow time for thorough cleaning. Parents/carers/key workers/support staff are not allowed inside the building at all unless they are included in the maximum number of attendees and will therefore be required to wait in their cars until the students are brought out one at a time. At present just because of the sheer logistics of keeping students in their allocated spaces, collecting and delivering each student and the cost of running each class (additional hall hire time, insurance, music licensing, cleaning materials etc) I cannot start any of my groups at present. I would love to get back to normal and see everyone but it is proving impossible. I am still looking to start zoom sessions but still have to find a space big enough to use that has internet connection and is not going to be prohibitively expensive. Keep watching this space, we will be dancing together again as soon as it is practical.

UPDATE for Dance Schools

As you may be aware following a recent review, the Prime Minister has today set out that where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, guidance will allow people to keep a social distance of ‘one metre plus’. This means staying one metre apart, plus mitigations which reduce the risk of transmission.

To clarify what cannot open from the 4th of July. The following places will remain closed by law;

Nightclubs and casinos
Bowling alleys and indoor skating rinks
Indoor play areas including soft-play
Spas
Nail bars and beauty salons
Massage, tattoo and piercing parlours
Indoor fitness and dance studios, and indoor gyms and sports venues/facilities
Swimming pools and water parks
Exhibition or conference centres - other than for those who work for that venue.

Dance studios fall within a group of businesses that have an enhanced level of risk due to the nature of the increased respiratory rate which produces an Aerosol type effect of droplets which are proven to have a higher risk of transmission of COVID-19.

As and when Dance Studios are given the green light to re-open it should be noted that working out a studios capacity is not as easy as placing marks 1+ metre apart but have to be based on a formula to allow for the average distance travelled by a dancer under certain conditions and the aerosol 'slipstream' effect. The aerosol effect can be increased or reduced based on whether you are delivering low or high impact classes. As an example, an Under 5's Ballet class would be considered to have a lower transmission risk than your Seniors Modern class, and this would need to be reflected in your studio capacity.

Reducing the social distance to 1+ metres also relies on additional mitigations (or controls) being put in place as clearly outlined in today's guidance. It would generally be impractical to introduce perspex screens between dancers or visors and as such in our environment we would struggle to justify the reduction of social distance to 1+ metre in line with today's guidance. Masks, however, would be a consideration and a mitigation measure that the Government may impose.

When additional guidance is released for the leisure industry (to include dance-based studio-based activity) we will post an update, the impact it has on your business, and additional information to be taken in to account when producing your Risk Assessment.

These changes apply in England only.

I thought I would share this information with everyone. I am so looking forward to the day we can all get back to dancing but I also want to keep all of us completely safe. Please keep patience, keep happy and most of all keep safe & healthy.
