Nailsea Bowls Club

A fun social bowls event on Friday (4/9). We were visited by touring side Uffculme Bowls Club and guests. At the end of their week away they were in good spirits and enjoyed their bowls on 6 rinks. Whilst we won overall the result was not important we made new friends and enjoyed their visit.

After the game we sat down to a two course meal with the usual refreshments and our visitors treated us to their celebration choir.

🟢🔵FINAL 2026 COUNTY LEAGUE TABLES🔵🟢
🥳🎉🍺😊MENS B TEAM PROMOTED😊🍺🎉🥳

On the final day of this seasons Somerset County league season our men’s A team position was confirmed as a creditable 4th place in Division 1 North with Portishead RBL Bowling Club being promoted back to the premier league at the first time of asking. Congratulations.

For Nailsea the excitement was at the top of Division 2 with 3 teams fighting for the last promotion place behind already promoted Victoria Bowls Club WSM. Our B team started the day 3 points behind their opponents on the day Clevedon Promenade Bowls Club knowing that they had to win to stand any chance of being promoted. In a very close game across three rinks we managed to win 55-45 with a win on 1 rink and a very close game on a second losing by 1 shot but our winning rinks margin of victory was large enough to take the points 8-4 meaning we went above Prom and that the other team in the mix could not catch us. The B team have been promoted and will join the A team in Division 1 North next season. An excellent end to a very enjoyable season.

As a club we aspire to achieve Premier status bowls within the next 3 years. If you would like to help us achieve that then come along to Mizzymead next season. It all starts again in April 2027.

The first day of club finals weekend playing schedule. Followed at 2.30pm by men’s county league game V Clevedon Prom with both clubs looking for the second promotion slot - winner takes all.

Come down to Mizzymead to support the finalists and our men’s B team. Bar and coffee lounge open.

Celebrating Ray Wyatt’s Legacy at Mizzymead 🎉

Nailsea Town Council was delighted to honour Ray Wyatt for his many years of voluntary service and dedication to Mizzymead Recreation Centre.

Ray’s father, Harry Wyatt, donated the land for the centre in the 1960s, and Ray has played a huge part in its development ever since.

Cllr Graham Parsons, Chair of Nailsea Town Council, and Mike Birch, Chair of the Mizzymead Trustees, unveiled two plaques – one celebrating the centre’s history and another recognising Ray’s lifetime of service. 👏

Cllr Parsons said:
“Ray’s dedication has helped make Mizzymead the vibrant community hub it is today. It is a pleasure to recognise a local legend who has given so much to our community.”

Mizzymead continues to be a fantastic community facility, offering a wide range of activities and facilities for everyone to enjoy.

After a great social day of bowls last Saturday (22nd) our attention turns to the more serious stuff of club finals. The first final was played on Tuesday and was a very close affair. Men’s singles The Frank Castel trophy for new players and those yet to win a singles event. In the end experience paid off with Chris Hughes beating Mark Oddy by 21-19.

Our Captain’s wanted a colourful event for this years charity day (Saturday 22nd) and that’s what they got. An enjoyable afternoon with some interesting challenges set by our Captains followed by a buffet and refreshments in the Mizzymead lounge.
