12 whole years SOBER! 🥳💪🏼 But who’s counting 🙌🏼💃🏻🙌🏼💃🏻
Every year I hit this new milestone on my journey, I always have all the feels about it! And trust me when I tell you, I never thought I’d get here, 12 years! I couldn’t even go 12 hours back in the day!
But here I am! And as I stand before you today, I’m humbled.
One thing I talk about a lot is never forgetting where I came from!
I will never forget the girl I used to be, And the further I get away from my old life, the more I realise something.
I used to talk about her like she was the devil, she hurt people, she let her babies down, she caused more tears and worry to the people who loved her the most. She carried so much shame, so much hurt and anger.
But I don’t think of her like that anymore, And if I could go back and meet that version of me, I’d wrap my arms around her and squeeze her tight. I’d wipe her tears and tell her she can do this.
Because every version of us matters, even the ones we are ashamed of.
Addiction doesn’t give a s**t who you are.
It can take any single one of us.
And in the process, it leaves utter devastation all around, the parents who have to watch their babies slowly killing themselves, the children who lose their parents, because it’s never just about the person with the addiction, it’s everyone else in their lives too.
Today I am grateful! Grateful I found my fight. Grateful my babies got the mum they finally deserved and needed.
Fu***ng grateful I believed in myself!
I’m here! I’m proud of the lady I built!
My life has definitely not been a fairytale, And I’m pretty sure I could write an epic book.
But every version of me, every heartbreak, everything, even the really s**tty parts. Mattered.
And I want to just leave you with this.
If addiction has you in its grips? Ask for help, There’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, in fact it will be one of the bravest things you could do.
No it won’t be easy, You’ll have to fight, every single day.
But if you’re alive? You can fight!
If you can fight? You CAN WIN!
I wear my scars with pride, because it’s made me who I am today.
And I’m good with her 🫶🏼
We do get better, we do recover 🩷
