How has it been a week already??? 🤯

History was made at the front of this year’s London Marathon, but seven MAC athletes took on the same 26.2 miles.

Evan Crane was first home in a time of 3:08:39, hitting a GFA standard for the Chicago Marathon.

Close behind were Derek O’Neill and Alastair Loudon who finished in 3:29:12 and 3:41:32 respectively.

First female finisher for MAC was Club Captain Carla Brawley taking on the 26.2 for the second consecutive year in a time of 3:32:42.

Gary Arthur was the recipient of the club ballot place this year and ran 4:53:19 after 11 rejection emails for the event! 😉

Emma Stuart and Grant Shaw completed our team out on the course, finishing within a few minutes of each other in 4:58:13 and 5:01:45.

Well done to all who took part! Another warm day in the capital which seemed to impact everyone in the second half of the race bar the first three elite males!

**MAJOR FACILITY NEWS**

Breaking news. We have been informed that the athletics facility at Wishaw Sports Centre will be closing from Tuesday 5 May. This is to prepare for a full replacement and brand new track facility, something which the club have been advocating for, for a significant time.

Funded by North Lanarkshire Council, this significant investment of circa £500k, represents a huge boost to match the ambition of Motherwell Athletics Club, and supports our plans to grow and develop the club, and safeguards our future in the local area in the long term.

Progress is moving rapidly and we’ve known less than 24 hours, which has meant that contingency planning has had to be rapid. It is important that we remain as close as possible and avoid having to leave North Lanarkshire in the interim.

The club is happy to confirm that training will return to the track at Dalziel Park, (Carfin to Cleland Road) from Wednesday 6 May. Monday and Wednesday sessions will be at the same time as present, with Saturday session details to follow, but most likely at 0930.

The junior group will remain at Fir Park on a Monday until further notice.

The club coaches and committee appreciate your patience in this unforeseen and fast moving situation, and look forward to your support as we transition for the full track and field season.

Coaches will update groups directly, however training remains in place this Saturday, and next Monday, unless coaches advise otherwise.

North Lanarkshire Council will be making an announcement officially in the next few hours, however we are committed to keeping our members and families fully up to date and wanted to do so at the earliest possible time, and the Council have supported us with this.

If you require any additional information at this stage, please speak with any of the track and field coaches.

📢 WEEKEND ROUND UP 📢

First of our posts from Manchester as a large contingent of our SE athletes took on the marathon on Sunday.

First up is Nicole who joined the 1% club by finishing in a time of 3:44:23.

Felicity reaped the rewards of a great training block by lowering her time to 3:33:16, taking nearly 20 minutes from her previous best.

Danielle claimed the bragging rights in her household by finishing ahead of husband Jock in a time of 4:14:50. Jock himself ran 4:18:03, smashing his goal of 4:30 for the first time. 🦈

Shane ran 3:36:12, taking 11 minutes off of his London time last year. He says he is “definitely maybe” doing another marathon!

And finally for now, Coach Scott completed athletics by running his debut marathon in a time of 4:19:57. He says it was “the hardest thing that I’ve ever done.” Well done Scott! And to the familiar face in your picture! 🫡

More to come from Manchester as we get it. Eyes firmly forward to this weekend at London…

📢 WEEKEND ROUND UP 📢

Well done to club athlete Luke who once again lowered his 5k PB at Stride Athletics Flat ‘n’ Fast event!

Windy conditions on the day a limiting factor and absolutely more to come from this young man. No pictures of Luke in action but we do have one post-race where he’s looking pretty pleased with himself! And rightly so!

Well done again Luke! Everyone at the club is very proud of you!

🌍🏃‍♂️ March Madness : Half Marathons, PBs & Team Racing 🧡♥️

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for MAC with our athletes racing across Europe and closer to home with plenty of PBs to show for it.

🇪🇸 Madrid Medio Maratón
Carla Dunn ran 1:49:38 in a warm sunny day in the Spanish capital.

🇪🇸 MITJA MARATÓ CIUTAT DE PALMA
On the same day, Julia Perrie ran 1:48:00 in the Balearic Islands. No PB this time but good warm weather training as she heads towards a Spring marathon.

⛴️ Liverpool Half Marathon
Ewen Cameron and Graeme Kennedy ran the new revised route of the Liverpool Half Marathon in windy conditions. Excellent running from both!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Alloa Half Marathon
A popular and quick course delivered big results - Jamie Paterson first home in a time of 1:20:40 with some big PB’s along the way! 🔔

🌁 20 Along the Forth
Perfect conditions for this long-distance event. Many of our club athletes using this one as part of marathon training. For some, the furthest they’ve ran so far in the build up! Well done!

🇵🇹 EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa
Peter Blackmore ran in Portugal as part of the SuperHalfs series.

🇨🇿 Generali Prague Half Marathon
Grant Fawcett completed the SuperHalfs series in a time of 1:33:17.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Tom Scott 10 Mile Road Race
21 athletes toed the line in what can only be described as blustery conditions on the day! Chris MacDonald first home in 1:02:11 with Jamie Paterson & Jordan Graham following closely. First female was Carla Brawley with Julie McKean and Gillian McCaffer completing the top 3.

Long may this busy racing calendar continue 🧡♥️

Well done to one of more “senior” track athletes Jim Smith who represented his country at the European Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, picking up two medals over the last few days.

Continuing to inspire our younger athletes!
