𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐳 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛.

We had an excellent quiz night at the club on Tuesday evening hosted by quiz master extraordinaire, Shay.

Well done to team "Advantage' for their victory by the narrowest of margins over 'Jellytots on Tour'.

Thanks to Shay for producing and delivering the quiz and to the organising committee for putting together such an enjoyable and well attended event.

🏓 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬. 🏓

Great to be back on the table tennis tables last Thursday. We'll be playing every Thursday from 6pm til 8pm so come along if you fancy joining in. It's only £2 per session and you may even get a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Of course the Supervets have been playing throughout the winter when rain stops play during their Tuesday and Thursday morning slots. All action and highly competitive!

Regular visitors to the lower courts will have seen the transformation of the dugout, all thanks to Diane, Yvonne and Graeme.

Brilliant job guys and now the onus is on all the rest of us to make sure we keep it this neat, tidy and well organised.

A fabulous end of season social night at the club recently.

Fabulous food, great company, an excellent acoustic set from Ian and much fun, laughter, drinking and dancing.

Well done to all the winners who received their trophies on the night, and many thanks to the organising committee for putting on such a superb event.

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 - 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘.

Despite a weather forecast of strong winds and intermittent rain, Sunday stayed dry albeit somewhat chilly, and the high quality of very competitive tennis continued where Saturday had left off.

Having lost in the final of the Women's Handicap Doubles in 2024, there was no denying Andrea and Diane, (or was it Diane and Andrea), this year as they surged to victory against Janet and Lilian.

Simultaneously there was an extremely high quality Open Men's Doubles final taking place between Alex and Colin and Jake and Simon. After sharing the first two sets we went to a Championship tie-break during which both pairs had match points to win before eventually Jake and Simon nudged ahead to take the honours.

An equally competitive match saw Jill and Mark in inspired form to just edge out Tracey and Graham in the Open Mixed Doubles. The high standard of tennis drew a healthy crowd who cheered and heckled the players in equal measure - Huzzar!

Due to illness, the Women's Open Doubles had to be postponed which meant that all eyes, and an increasingly raucous crowd, were drawn to the final of the Men's Open Singles - an epic match up between reigning champion Alex and challenger Simon. A fabulous match of great quality that could have gone either way, and once again went to a Championship tie-break before Alex emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins.

So ended the tennis but we still had time for Colin quite rightly to be crowned 'best turned out player' and Steve to win the raffle for a Lexus for a weekend. I'm sure he'll have a great time assuming he's managed to peel Elizabeth off him by then.

Huge thanks to all on the committee who worked so hard to make the weekend such a success. It was good to see a reasonable number of supporters on both days but next year let's see if we can get a few more to come along and see the club in all it's glory.

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐃 - 𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐀𝐘!

What a day we had on Saturday - the weather stayed fine, we even got a little bit of sunshine, and the finals were all highly competitive and played in excellent spirit.

Many thanks to Lexus Newcastle for sponsoring the weekend and gracing the occasion with 2 of their fabulous cars!

𝐒𝐨 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬:
First up, Lilian and Gordon won the Handicap Mixed Doubles with a fine display against Diane and Richard - finally stepping up from bridesmaids to brides after so many near misses in the past!

Trevor Herron unfortunately had to withdraw from the Men's Over-55's Open Double so Graham stepped into the breach to partner Richard Huck and duly powered to a narrow victory against Guy and Steve.

The Men's Handicap Singles went down to the wire before Gavin narrowly edged past Iain to reclaim his crown.

Similarly the Men's Handicap Doubles was incredibly tight with Paul and Paddy just holding off Gordon and Paul.

Finally, the day was brought to a close by a tremendous display of tennis between Tracey and Jill in the Women's Open Singles. The match was too close to call throughout but eventually Tracey got her nose in front and won on a 10-point tie-break.

Huge congratulations to all the winners. Well done to everyone who took part and also to the healthy number of spectators who turned up to cheer (and heckle) during the day.

A final thanks to all those who helped organise the event, to pull together the schedule, organise sponsorship and prizes and ensure that everything went off without a hitch.
