It’s New Years Eve, I’m in the gym.

New Years Resolutions are a great idea but I think a lot of people use them to try to commit to something they feel they SHOULD do, not something they WANT to do.

This year, don’t say you’ll run 10k if you don’t like running, don’t say you’ll hit the gym twice a week if you don’t enjoy lifting, don’t try a martial arts class if you don’t find it interests you and don’t commit to 10000 steps if you hate walking.

I’m in the gym today because it’s a Wednesday and I like it here. Simple.

If you have health and fitness goals then have a think about what you might actually enjoy doing and make that your res for the year, that way maybe you’ll be still doing it December 31st 2026.

And if it’s martial arts, check us out this Jan!

Parents of Morley! Do you want to get the kids of the X-Box? Worried they have too much screen time?

Screen time and lack of activity is a big worry these days. What you need is something the kids will love doing more than playing the latest craze game or doom-scrolling FB and Insta!

Kickboxing is fun and exciting, the kids will get their exercise but they won't even notice because they'll be having fun and socialising in REAL LIFE!

How about two classes for free? No obligation? Sounds good right...

Click on the button below to find out more and you will also qualify for our limited special offer of FREE BOXING GLOVES when you enrol with us!

Act now, we have limited spaces :-)

I think most people understand that martial arts helps with confidence, bullying and so on. It’s on pretty much every advert everywhere.

But I think people tend to misunderstand how it helps. That leads to questions like which is the best martial art to do and debates of the practicality of and technical approach of different systems.

The thing is it doesn’t matter.

They are all good if taught correctly.

You see martial arts present people with challenges, and a good instructor will help their students face those challenges. Having successfully faced the challenge the students’ confidence and self worth increases and we move them on to their next challenge.

That’s how we build them up, and confidence and self esteem are the best defence against bullying, be it on the playground or online.

Now as to which martial art? The answer is simple, it’s the one they enjoy. Because that is one they will stick at, and it takes time for the magic to happen!

So, let them pick a style that excites them, for whatever reason, and then research the local schools to find the instructor and environment that suits them and resonates with you.

Have a great day!

And we did great!

It was a fantastic day with courage, skill and integrity demonstrated by all. We are already looking forward to next year!

For the second time Spirit Martial Arts was honoured to host a special training workshop with Mr Iain Abernethy. Students from both Karate and Taewkon-Do classes attended to learn drills and applications.

Mr Abernethy a world expert of applications of martial arts movements was once again accompanied by Ms Mary Stevens herself a highly qualified and experienced instructor, and delivered a four hour seminar that felt much shorter (until we got home and realised how much work we'd actually done).

We were very happy to welcome some of our friends from the excellent WMA Keighley to the event.

We look forward to repeating the event next year!

Martial Arts is a popular sport for children. Yet dedicated, passionate, talented students can no longer use them for GCSE. I think Martial Arts are wholly inclusive, appeal to all genders, all ethnic backgrounds and children with SEN. They can help promote fitness, self-discipline and respect.
