Weekend Results:
The 1st XI fell to an agonising defeat at Champions New Farnley. Batting first, we posted a competitive 264/5. Waleed Akhtar scored 59 on his return to the side and Saj Azeem smashed an unbeaten 69 to continue his excellent form. Overseas star Muhammad Junaid controlled the innings and was out on the last ball for a brilliant 95.
Vinit Patel bowled a fantastic spell with the new ball accounting for both Farnley openers. From then, Jude Roberts (3/69) and Junaid bowled well to see the rate climb to 10 runs per over. But New Farnley showed their depth and resilience as a 46 run 7th wicket partnership saw them just over the line with 3 balls to spare.
The 2nd XI continued their unbeaten start to the season with a convincing 89 run win at home to Baildon. A dominant batting display saw Ben White, Ben Jenkinson and Tom Hendry all score half centuries in our 276/6. A brilliant opening spell between Jai Jassi (6 overs for 4 runs) and Henry Wareham (3/42 from 12 overs) meant that Baildon were never in the hunt in reply.
On Sunday, the Cougars Maroon Team lost out to a strong Altofts bowling lineup. Despite the runs total being close, we lost 8 wickets to Altofts 3 to lose out on Net score by 29 runs. Natalia Wlodaryczyk impressed with 20 from 18 balls.
The t20 team won both of their Pool 4 games. Finn Brookes had an early baptism of fire as T20 captain after he won the toss and chose to bat, only to see us to fall to 20/4! Junaid carried on from Saturday with 54* and was supported by Ben White and Vinit Patel (both 23). Momentum swung both ways in the Jer Lane innings and despite 2 early wickets, they were ahead at half way. But Morley kept fighting and picked up regular wickets as Ben White (4/15) and Matt Dowse (3/15) impressed to see us home by just 10 runs.
The 2nd game against Hanging Heaton saw us score 178/9 batting first with Junaid scoring 44; supported by Waleed (26), Saj (25) and Ben W (21). What followed was an extraordinary start to the Hanging Heaton innings. 18 runs from the 1st over and a huge 6 in the 2nd gave no indication of the carnage to follow. After just 7 overs, the score was 61/7. 16 year old Henry Wareham bowled with good pace and energy to finish with 4/34. Later order resistance got the score to 131 in a comfortable victory and progression to the next round on 28th June. Well done lads.
