Have you been inspired by the Rugby World a cup and want to get involved with your local club? Perhaps you or your son has opted to take GCSE PE and would like to try a new sport then if so read on.

From this season the Under 15s will become the Morley Academy, and the Maroons are looking for new and returning players to join the team as the latest cohort in September.

The Academy was established in 2018 by the then Age Grade Chairman, Rob Horsfield, alongside Martin Haywood and Mark Burrows.
Since launch players from the Academy have developed to play for Yorkshire ERDPP, Yorkshire Academy, Morley 1st team, University BUCs clubs and England U18s.

There's not only rugby on offer, but a great amount of skills, expertise and support available to the academy team players and their support network, throughout the season. Here's an outline of the Academy, starting September 2023.

The Academy has 3 objectives:
1. Raise the standards of coaching and player development, as we start the pathway programme to senior rugby;
2. Uses a new rugby curriculum to support player development towards Yorkshire representative honours;
3. Uses the resources from the senior coaching team (and Yorkshire) to build technical skills and develop player positions.

The rugby curriculum will be led by our new Director of Junior Rugby at Morley RFC, Peter Barclay-Quelch.

The current coaching team has a strong mix of experienced, qualified coaches. These have experience of coaching with the Yorkshire developing player pathway, coaching a team through to colts level, and playing at senior (1st XV) level.

The curriculum will include:
• strength and conditioning
• diet and nutrition
• technical set piece skills development
• guest sessions from Morley seniors coaches and Yorkshire Developing Player Pathway
• sprint coaching
• building mental resilience
• new kit (training and playing apparel)

The lads will have a lot to focus on with the added complexity of set piece (lineout and scrum) as well as general fitness, defensive and offensive play. For this reason training will be 2 sessions a week, initially on a trial basis during September, but with a view to continuing this through the season.

We are excited to welcome the current U14s as well as any new players looking to experience what the Academy at Morley can offer as latest cohort in September 2023.

If you have questions, or would like to join, please don't hesitate to call or message Head Coach Tom Else: 07780 328 631.
