🏃 RUNNERS! Is this you?

You're doing your stretches.

You're foam rolling.

You're working hard in the gym.

But the niggles keep coming back.

Three things I commonly assess in injured runners:

✔️ Soleus strength ✔️ Pelvic control ✔️ Lateral hip endurance

Many runners focus on mileage and fitness but overlook some of the key physical qualities needed to tolerate running loads.

Not every injury is caused by weakness, but these are three areas I regularly assess when helping runners return to training.

Struggling with a running injury?

Beautiful weather for a beach run this morning overlooking the Isle of Wight 🌊

Enjoying a weekend away visiting family before heading back to clinic next week.

Sometimes the best way to prepare for a busy week is a bit of fresh air, movement and time with the people who matter most.

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend ☀️

What do physiotherapists do when they finish work? 👀

After a busy day in clinic, one of the first things I like to do is move.

As physiotherapists, we're always encouraging our clients to keep moving, so it's important that we make time for our own movement too.

For me, a few minutes of gentle mobility work helps me slow my breathing, switch off from the day, ease any stiffness and clear my head.

Nothing complicated. No intense workout. Just movement, fresh air and a chance to reset.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day? 🌿

How stable is your lumbo-pelvic region? 👀

Your hips, pelvis and lower back work together to provide a stable foundation for movement. When this area lacks control, it can contribute to issues such as lower back pain, hip discomfort and reduced efficiency when running or exercising.

Here are 2 simple drills I regularly use for lumbo-pelvic stability:

Test 1: Pelvic control under load
Test 2: Dynamic pelvic stability

When performing these tests, look for:
• Excessive wobbling
• Pelvic dropping or tilting
• Loss of balance
• Compensation through the trunk

If you found either test challenging, don't worry, stability can be improved with the right exercises and progression. Link in bio to book an appointment and we can work on this together.

🔥 The Power of the Pulse

Why does such a small movement feel so hard?!

Those tiny pulses aren't just there to make your legs shake.

As fatigue builds, your nervous system recruits more motor units (groups of muscle fibres controlled by a nerve) to keep the movement going.

At the same time, pulses challenge neuromuscular control – the communication between your brain and muscles, helping improve stability, coordination and movement quality.

That's why such a small movement can feel surprisingly challenging.

Small movement. Big impact.

POV: A physio’s idea of a good day off ⛰️

Rocky paths
Questionable weather
Burning calves
Very happy nervous system

Movement doesn’t always have to be structured exercise.

Sometimes it’s fresh air, challenge, balance and getting outdoors.

Posture isn’t about holding one “perfect” position all day.
The body generally responds better to:
✔ movement variability
✔ mobility
✔ strength
✔ awareness
Changing position, moving regularly and building movement confidence often matters more than trying to sit perfectly.
Sometimes your posture doesn’t need fixing, your body simply needs more movement.
I think this version is stronger
