⚽️ DEVELOPMENT SQUAD RECAP ⚽️

Another brilliant Development Squad session! 💪⚽️

🧤 Goalkeepers
This session focused on communication between the goalkeeper and defenders.

Alongside their communication, our goalkeepers put into practice what they’ve been learning over the past few weeks about positioning, using the defenders in front of them to help set up and make the save. 🗣️🧤

🛡️ Outfield Players
Our outfield players continued working on body positioning, learning how to force the attacker away from goal and into less dangerous areas.

We also worked on timing the tackle, recognising the right moment to step in and win the ball without committing too early. 💪⚽️

Great work from everyone as we continue to develop the finer details of the game! 👏🔥

🧤 TOP TIP FOR CLUBS: DON'T FORGET YOUR GOALKEEPER!

They don't just need to train with the team — they need to train for their position. ⚽🔥

One thing I regularly hear from goalkeepers who attend my sessions is:

“At team training, I mostly train with the outfield players and don't get much specific goalkeeper training.”

And this is something that can make a huge difference. 👇

Goalkeepers have a completely different role on the pitch and require a completely different set of skills to develop. 🧤

While team training is incredibly important for developing as a player, goalkeepers also need time dedicated to their own position, including:

🧤 Shot-stopping
⚽ Handling technique
🎯 Positioning and angles
🦶 Footwork and movement
📣 Communication
💪 Confidence and decision-making

When goalkeepers don't receive regular, specialist training for their position, it can impact their confidence, development and performance on match day.

A goalkeeper's development shouldn't be an afterthought.
They are the last line of defence — and they deserve the same level of specialist coaching and attention as every other position on the pitch. 🧤🔥

Development Squad | Pre-Season Progress ⚽️

Our Development Squad continues to make excellent progress as we prepare for the upcoming season.

Over recent weeks, our sessions have focused on developing pre-season fitness alongside realistic, match-based practices designed to replicate the demands of competitive football.

🧤 Goalkeeper Union have been concentrating on positioning, body shape, set stances and decision-making to improve their ability to protect the goal in a variety of match situations.

🛡️ Outfield players have been developing key defensive principles, including defending in and out of possession, tackling techniques, blocking and understanding their defensive responsibilities within the team.

One of the greatest strengths of this group is the commitment shown by every participant. Each individual brings their own qualities, creating a positive and challenging environment where players encourage one another to improve, develop confidence and strive to reach their full potential.

The hard work, attitude and dedication shown by everyone continues to be outstanding, and we look forward to seeing that progress transfer onto the pitch throughout the season.
