Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club First founded in 1810, Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club is a welcoming golf club for new members.

Founded in 1810 as the Montrose Golf Club we are the 9th oldest golf club in the world. In 1845 Prince Albert graciously granted his Royal Patronage on the club being only the 3rd Royal patronage and subsequently we changed our name to The Royal Albert Golf Club. In 1866 our club held the only 25 hole professional event which included old Tom Morris, and was won by amateur William Doleman. In 1908

Montrosian Alex Findlay persuaded our 2nd Professional Chay Burgess to emigrate to USA and become the Professional at the Woodland Golf Club Massachusets where he coached celebrity members including Al Johnson, Babe Ruth & Bing Crosby. However he is most famous for coaching amateur Francis Quimet who was the fist amateur to win the US Open in 1913 which is acknowledged as being the major development of golf in America. In 1866 the Royal Albert was one of 21 clubs that contributed to the purchase of the British Amateur Championship trophy. In 1986 the Royal Albert Golf Club, the Victoria Golf Club and the North Links Ladies Golf Club, all merged to form the Royal Montrose Golf Club which welcomes all men, ladies & Junior members. In 2019 the Royal Montrose Golf Club and the Montrose Mercantile Golf Club merged to create the Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club

Though the weather put paid to their golf lesson last week, it was business as usual for our Get Into Golf Girls on Wednesday.

It’s dry so far, although the forecast isn’t looking too hopeful! Whatever the weather, the clubhouse is open and serving food all day until approximately 5:30pm.

Last Thursday, we hosted The Friendship Cup, an international competition between a team of Gents from Utah and ‘Team Carnoustie’, comprising members of Blairgowrie and the RMMGC.

Unfortunately, the weather was very unkind and play had to be suspended due to thunder, lightning and flooding! The gents did, however, enjoy excellent clubhouse hospitality in the evening and look forward to meeting up again, for the second leg of the competition, in Utah in September.

Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the annual Ladies MacDonald Texas Scramble, where six teams enjoyed a fun day of golf & socialising.
