Thank you all for your invaluable feedback. An unexpected 75 people took time to fill in our post race survey over the last week or so.
You spoke and we listened!
The top 3 likes were:
1. The friendly/welcoming atmosphere
2. The challenging but enjoyable Bike course (inc motivational slogans...)
3. The VOLUNTEERS!
The top 3 dislikes (or suggested improvements) were:
1. The swim (short!)
2. The lack of advance notice on which swim wave individuals were in.
3. The hanging around for swim waves 2 and 3
We value your feedback and really do take it on board. The good news is that dislikes 1+ 2 are easy fixes. Dislike 3 will take a bit more time to see if we can improve, but we'll never please everyone.
For the swim course length, next year we will move the swim buoys further apart, and have a swimmer verify the distance ppre-race. Simple fix.
For the lack of advance notice on swim waves, again, a simple fix. I'll commit to sharing the swim waves with you as part of the race info pack that gets sent out ~3 days before the race.
That should give you plenty of time to plan your pre-race nutrition and toilet trips!
For the swim waves, we manage the swim section this way primarily to make sure we have a proportionate water safety ratio of kayaks to swimmers. It also helps minimise the stress of slower swimmers being overtaken by the fastest swimmers, and to minimise the time our team on the water spend looking after swimmers. It's not always a sunny warm day, so we have to think of them too. We know it may not be popular with age group athletes, or those who want gender specific swim waves, but we feel it strikes a balance appropriate for our resources and for the safety of participants. I will look at ways we can try to minimise the hanging around, but can't promise it will change, if we can't see a significant improvement offered.
In the spirit of keeping the atmosphere of the event fun, energetic and welcoming, we'll also look more closely at the participant experience, and see how we can add to that for next year's event. Think medals, snacks, prizes and prize giving etc.
Most importantly, we want you to come back, so please like and follow our page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/M3TriathlonFestival) for updates and news on next year's event.
Kind regards
Adam
