U19 Presidents League Result:

Monifieth 1 (Will (p)) v Fairmuir 4

In windy conditions, Fairmuir extended their 100% start to the season while ending ours.

We almost snatched the lead straight from kick off but a great double save denied us. As the game settled down Fairmuir started to take control, and took the lead midway through the half via an absolute gift from us 🙈
A few minutes later they were two ahead. Following this, we had to weather the storm as Fairmuir threatened to extend their lead further. Through some strong defending and a bit of luck, we managed to keep the deficit to two at half time.

At 2-0 and now playing with the wind behind, we still had a chance to get something from the game. However, it was Fairmuir who went close right after half time, narrowly missing the goal.
20 minutes into the half, our task became even more difficult as Fairmuir scored a third from the penalty spot. There appeared to be a blatant foul on the keeper just before the penalty was awarded, but our appeals fell on deaf ears.
With around 15 minutes remaining, Fairmuir added a fourth from a (debatable) corner which secured the win.
We pulled a goal back when Greg Will slotted home a penalty after Finlay Armstrong was brought down in the box.

The boys were nowhere near their best today, and Fairmuir were deserved winners.

We now await news regarding any impact of the new Covid restrictions on our league fixtures. However, the boys will be keen to bounce back from today’s disappointment and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

U19 Presidents League Result:

Riverside Tayport 1 v Monifieth 3 (Armstrong 2, Gordon)

Not the prettiest game of football you’ll ever see, but the boys secured a 3-1 victory this afternoon away to Riverside Tayport.

Playing into a strong wind, we took the lead early in the first half with a well taken goal from Finlay Armstrong. There were few clear cut chances in a scrappy first half but Riverside pulled a goal back just before half time.

We regained the lead early in the second half with a great header from Josh Gordon. We had to dig deep at times and Riverside had a few decent chances to equalise with the score at 2-1. However, we also came close to extending our lead on a few occasions, and were frustrated by some debatable offside calls. Finlay Armstrong secured the win with another well taken goal right before the final whistle.

Next week we host an on-form Fairmuir 19's team who followed up last week’s impressive victory away to Forfar Athletic CSC with a comprehensive win over Ferry Athletic. Sure to be another early season test for the boys, but it has the potential to be a cracker!

Officially a free week today, so instead we played a friendly match against Dundee United U18. As expected, this was a very good test for the boys against one of the country’s elite level academy teams, but a great effort from the squad and plenty of positives to take from the game.

We return to league duty next Sunday when we travel to play Riverside Tayport. Our opponents are sure to be in confident mood following a 6-4 victory away to Bridge of Earn earlier today.

A good run out for the boys today as they finished comfortable 6-1 winners in a ‘friendly’ match against Monifieth 02s.

Some nice football and good goals, particularly in the first half.

U19 Presidents League Result:

Monifieth 2 (Lorente, Kydd) v Dundee Downfield West 1

The boys started the season with a narrow 2-1 victory over Dundee Downfield West.

We started the game really well, and raced into a 2-0 lead. Dundee Downfield West came back into the game strongly, despite going down to 10 men, and pulled a goal back with a penalty. Both teams finished the game with 10 men following another red card in the second half.

See attached announcement from the DDYFA on the back of the SYFA. Not really a surprise that the leagues have been deemed null and void with the current uncertainty due to the global pandemic.
Most important thing at the moment is that everyone stays safe, stays home and within your own household unit.
Football will start again, but in the meantime
