It is with great sadness that we learned that Hugh Barker passed away in June.
Hugh was an Honorary Life Member of Dundee Model Aircraft Club and served for many years as our Gliding Representative and a valued committee member during the 1980s.
He was a genuinely lovely man—quiet and unassuming, but whenever he spoke, everyone knew it was worth listening to. Hugh was an exceptionally thoughtful and intelligent person. During a challenging period in the club's history, he wrote the club's disciplinary procedure, recognising the need to help guide the club through difficult times.
Hugh spent almost all of his flying time on Pole Hill, where he became a familiar face to generations of slope soaring enthusiasts. Although he flew at Barry on a few occasions, he was best known and fondly remembered by the many friends he made on the slope.
In recent years, Hugh had been living with Parkinson's disease and had understandably been unable to attend the club.
On behalf of everyone at Dundee Model Aircraft Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Hugh's family and friends. He will be remembered with great affection and gratitude for his contribution to the club and to the model flying community.
Rest in peace, Hugh.
