MCC head into the penultimate weekend of the season with all four senior sides in action and plenty of league points up for grabs!

With the season rapidly drawing to a close, there’s still plenty to play for across the club.

MCC Weekend Round-Up 🏏💚🦢

The headline belonged to the 1st XI, who secured their first league victory of the season with a brilliant 62-run win over Clacton-on-Sea.

Mistley posted 258, led by excellent half-centuries from Kajeai Tharaneetharan (68) and Harry Parkes (64). The bowlers then dismissed Clacton for 196, with Sanjeai Tharaneetharan taking 3–49, Dom Bowden 3–53 and youngster Freddie Stockton 3–36.

The 2nd XI faced Battisford & District at New Road. Despite wickets for Ronnie Taylor (2–35), Matt Bibby (2–45) and Aaron Pooley (1–55), the visitors amassed 298/5.

Mistley were dismissed for 179 in reply, but Cameron Rose struck an excellent 54, supported by Sam Harby with 38, in a 119-run defeat.

The 3rd XI endured a difficult afternoon at Earls Colne. Kevin Chapman top-scored with 25, while Sam Gooch added 21, as Mistley were bowled out for 122. Earls Colne reached 124 without losing a wicket to complete a ten-wicket victory.

The Div C XI made it back-to-back wins and completed the league double over close neighbours Frinton.

Sean Bibby led the batting with an excellent 70, supported by Ronan Sheldrick (30) and Janak Sharma (24), as Mistley posted 227.

Janak then completed an excellent all-round performance with 3–21, while Vicky Pawar took 3–22. Sean added 2–59, with Luke Richardson taking 1–14 and Ronnie Taylor returning remarkable figures of 1–1.

Frinton were dismissed for 120 as Mistley sealed a commanding 107-run victory.

Two excellent victories and some brilliant performances across the club. Huge congratulations to the 1st XI on earning that long-awaited first win and to the Div C XI for making it back-to-back victories. Thank you to everyone who represented Mistley CC and carry this momentum into the closing weeks of the season. 💚🦢

🏏 A Huge Weekend Ahead for Mistley CC! 🦢💚

We head into another big weekend of cricket with valuable league points on the line as our sides look to strengthen their positions and steer clear of any potential relegation trouble.

🔹 1st XI – Away vs Clacton-on-Sea CC
The 1st XI make the trip to Clacton still searching for that elusive first win of the season. There’s no better time to get it — a victory could be the spark needed to start a late-season run and fight our way to safety. 💪

🔹 2nd XI – Home vs Battisford & District CC
New Road hosts a crucial Division Four clash as the 2nd XI welcome Battisford. A win would close the gap on our visitors and, more importantly, help create some breathing space between ourselves and the bottom three. 🏏

🔹 3rd XI – Away vs Earls Colne CC
The 3rds travel to bottom side Earls Colne knowing there’s a real opportunity to collect another important victory and continue climbing towards the comfort of mid-table in Division Eight. 📈

🔹 Sunday – Div C XI vs Frinton CC
Sunday sees our close neighbours Frinton make the trip to New Road. After a convincing victory over Ardleigh last time out, the Div C boys will be looking for back-to-back wins and to complete the league double over Frinton. 🔥

Plenty at stake. Plenty of cricket. Four teams. One club. 100% Mistley. 🦢💚

MCC Cricket Week Round-Up 🏏🦢

1st XI: Lost to Worlington CC by 27 runs. Worlington 306/6; Mistley 279 all out. 8 points

2nd XI: Lost to Nacton CC by 94 runs. Nacton 264 all out; Mistley 170 all out. 8 points

3rd XI: Lost to Witham CC by 52 runs. Witham 258 all out; Mistley 206/9. 10 points

Div C XI: Beat Ardleigh CC by 131 runs. Mistley 268/6; Ardleigh 137 all out. 20 points

Alongside this weekend’s league action, New Road hosted a further eight matches during a brilliant MCC Cricket Week.

Tuesday began with the traditional President’s XI versus Chairman’s XI, and it couldn’t have been more closely contested—the match finished in a tie.

Wednesday brought two excellent victories for Mistley. The MCC Legends XI defeated the Two Counties Over-50s, before the MCC XI completed the double with victory over the Two Counties Over-60s XI.

The Swans also added to the entertainment before, during and after the solar eclipse with a brilliant Players versus Family pairs match. It was a fun, competitive occasion that brought players, families and supporters together—the perfect reminder that Cricket Week is about far more than just the results.

Thursday’s Rose Bowl T10 competition welcomed Mistley CC, Coggeshall Town CC, Hadleigh CC and Chelmsford CC. After an entertaining day of fast-paced cricket, Chelmsford and Coggeshall Town met in the final, with Coggeshall Town lifting the Rose Bowl.

Cricket Week concluded on Friday as the MCC XI faced the Gentlemen of Essex. Nearly 200 luncheon guests and spectators watched the traditional timed match, with the Gentlemen of Essex eventually taking the honours.

1st XI: Lost to East Bergholt CC by 61 runs. East Bergholt 305/8; Mistley 244 all out. 9 points

2nd XI: Lost to Harwich & Dovercourt CC by nine wickets. Mistley 110 all out; Harwich & Dovercourt 111/1. 1 point

3rd XI: Beat Chappel and Wakes Colne CC by six wickets. Chappel and Wakes Colne 170 all out; Mistley 172/4. 20 points

Eight additional matches, some fantastic cricket and a packed New Road made it a memorable week for Mistley Cricket Club. 🏏💚🦢
