🐦‍🔥 Phoenix return to winning ways with 2 wicket win 🐦‍🔥

A determined Phoenix side took to the road in the direction of Welbeck to take on their 4th team. Looking to right a few wrongs after back to back defeats, Phoenix edged out the hosts in close encounter.

Skipper Ryan Milbourn won the toss and elected to bowl. Shammy and Chris given the new ball honours. Shammy struck first in the 5th over, clean bowling Bingley leaving the hosts 24-1. Milbourn shuffled himself into the attack and was next to strike in the 9th. The oppo skipper Morrison the next man to go, he too bowled and Welbeck now 31-2. Chris followed it up with another wicket, lbw in the 10th. The skipper made it 3 wickets in 3 overs with another incoming batter dismissed in the 11th. Welbeck now 37-4 and looking to stabilise.

Tom Daykin had other plans having entered the attack, he dismissing the stubborn R Morrison in the 16th over. Pete Clayton introduced in the 19th over took little time to find his stride. He and Keeper Taylor combining for a smart caught behind, Welbeck 65-6. Daykin struck again in the 22nd over, bowling the dangerous Dyson. Welbeck 80-7 and looking to stave off a collapse.

And that they did, the skipper and his 7 bowlers tried their luck trying to dislodge the already settled Abdul Abbasi and the incoming batter C Morrison. Their lively 67 partnership was finally halted in the 38th over. Sam Smailes with the key wicket, Abbasi 66 off 65 balls. Welbeck 157-8 with 13 deliveries remaining. With the penultimate ball C Morrison was bowled by that man Sam after a handy 21 runs. The final ball saw a routine stumping for Taylor as the batter advanced down the track as Smailes picked up his 3rd wicket. Welbeck set the visitors a total of 169 to win.

Taylor and Smailes took that momentum into the run chase, both scoring freely early doors. The partnership was halted in the 6th over, R Morrison bowling Smailes after making a quick 16 (2 boundaries & 1 maximum). Phoenix 32-1 with Andy Drury next in. He and Taylor seemed to settle too but the latter was next to go. He was caught and bowled by Abbasi in the 12th over after making 24 with 3 boundaries. Phoenix now 58-2. Welbeck struck twice in the 14th over Phil Dacunha bowled and Drury run out in consecutive balls as Phoenix wobbled to 62-4. With Shammy and Daykin at the crease Phoenix battled through to the 19th without loss. Daykin bowled by C Morrison after hitting a quick 12 (3 boundaries). Phoenix now 83-5. Incoming batter Ostle was to assist Akram in a game winning partnership of 83 which was littered with boundaries from the pair. The 35th over saw the end of the pair of them however, Ostle bowled with the first delivery after making a solid 24. Akram bowled by Bingley with the penultimate delivery. Akram’s 63 off 64 balls included 10 boundaries and 1 maximum. Phoenix 167-7 and on the brink of victory.

Which came the very next over - although a wicket fell the Skipper & Chris got the 2 runs required to secure victory.

🏏 MATCH REPORT: Misterton Phoenix CC vs Harthill CC 🏏

Misterton Phoenix CC claimed a controlled 32‑run victory over Harthill CC, built on a patient innings from Ashley Arnold and finished by a ruthless spell from Jamie Mann that dismantled the Harthill chase.
Misterton’s innings never exploded, but it never collapsed either — largely thanks to Ashley Arnold, who carried his bat for a composed 68 from 113 balls*. His knock was the spine of the innings, absorbing pressure while wickets fell around him.

Key early moments included:

• Liam Taylor looked positive with two early boundaries before edging to Ritchie Cawthorne off Dayan Dandunnage for 14.
• Greg Newton followed for 7, also to Dandunnage, leaving Misterton 34–2 and in need of stability.
• Arnold and Phil Dacunha rebuilt, adding 50 for the third wicket before Dacunha was bowled by James Radford for 12.

Radford then produced the spell of the innings:

• He removed Richard Ostle caught-and-bowled for 5.
• Then bowled Doug Webster for a duck.
• His figures — 8–2–13–3 — were the most economical and threatening of the match.

Late impetus came from:

• Ryan Milbourn (14 from 20), who struck a boundary and rotated well.
• Jamie Mann, who arrived late and cracked a boundary in a lively 5* from 3 balls.

Misterton closed on 149–8 from 40 overs, a total that looked modest but defendable on a slow surface.

Harthill began their chase with intent. Ian Batty (21) and Andrew Collinson (24) put on 45 for the first wicket, rotating well and punishing anything short.

The breakthrough came from Jamie Mann, who had Batty caught by Liam Taylor, sparking a shift in momentum.

A cluster of wickets followed:

• Martin Grayson struck two early boundaries but was bowled by Ashley Arnold for 8.
• Collinson, who had looked composed, fell caught by Ryan Milbourn off Richard Ostle, leaving Harthill 59–3.
• Arnold then struck again, bowling Archie Plant for 4.

At 69–5, Harthill were wobbling — and Misterton sensed their moment.

---

Mann’s Match‑Winning Spell

The defining passage of play came from Jamie Mann, who tore through the middle and lower order with a superb spell of 4–20 from 8.1 overs.

His key moments:

• Removing Lucas Howe (23) caught by Ostle just as the batter was settling.
• Dismissing Harry Radford for a duck.
• Bowling Jack Radford for 0.
• Applying relentless pressure that Harthill never recovered from.

With Mann attacking one end, Richard Ostle (2–28) and Ashley Arnold (2–22) kept things tight through the middle overs.

A late cameo from Ritchie Cawthorne (8) briefly delayed the inevitable before he was caught by Phil Dacunha off Wayne Flower, ending the innings at 117 all out.

---

Result

Misterton Phoenix CC win by 32 runs.

Key Performers

Misterton Phoenix CC

• Ashley Arnold – 68 (113)* and 2–22
The defining all‑round performance: anchored the innings and broke the chase.
• Jamie Mann – 4–20
Match‑winning spell that crushed Harthill’s middle order.
• Richard Ostle – 2–28
Important wickets at key moments.

Harthill CC

• Andrew Collinson – 24
Looked solid before falling at a crucial moment.
• Ian Batty – 21
Positive start that gave Harthill early hope.
• James Radford – 3–13
Outstanding with the ball; kept Misterton in check.

---

Summary

This was a match defined by discipline rather than fireworks. Misterton’s total of 149 looked light, but Arnold’s patience and Mann’s incisive bowling proved decisive. Harthill had moments of promise — especially at 45–0 — but once the wickets began to fall, Misterton’s bowlers never loosened their grip.

🏏 MATCH REPORT 🏏

Misterton Phoenix lose by 4 runs, as Todwick edge a nail biting contest

Phoenix hit the road in game week 2 travelling to Todwick, but fell short of the 131 total set by the hosts. Skipper Ryan Milbourn lost the toss, and his charges were asked to field.

The skipper and Daykin opened the bowling and made early breakthroughs. Daykin removing an opener cleaned bowled in 3rd over. Milbourn, never one to be outshone removed the incoming batter via the same means in the 4th over. Todwick 9-2.

The first ball of 7th over saw a Daykin take his second wicket, the other opener removed as he finely edged one to the grateful keeper Taylor who took the simple catch. Milbourn made it 2 a piece in the wicket race in the 8th over with another batter clean bowled. Todwick 17-4 and struggling to handle the Phoenix attack.

The 12th over saw a change of bowler and the decision paid off. The Anchor Ash Arnold, striking with his 4th delivery. The spinner finding a wide open gate for the ball to rip through to dislodge the bails. Phoenix looking firmly in control with the host reduced to 29-5. Daykin struck again in the 15th over with his final allotted over, another batter clean bowled. Todwick 37-6.

Todwick’s remaining batters had to dig deep to set a defendable total, and the momentum swung in their direction from this point in the innings. Over 24 saw the next wicket, Sam Smailes removing the wild J Booth. He was too early on his shot and looped one up to the grateful Arnold who snaffled the catch. Todwick now 65-7.

Over 29 saw VC Ostle remove the stubborn and patient Marshall with the last delivery of the over. Daykin making good ground to get underneath a skied effort. With 10 overs left Todwick were 80-8 and only 1 wicket remaining.

Todwick, using the allotted overs well accelerated to 130 - before the final ball of the 38th over saw Smailes claim the final wicket. Another batter clean bowled and a total of 131 to win set for the visitors.

Taylor and Arnold led the chase. The pair started true to recent form - Taylor the aggressor, Arnold the Anchor.

Over 10 saw the first wicket, Taylor (31, 4 boundaries & 2 maximums) who had given Todwick 2 chances to dismiss him early by playing in the air, didn’t survive the 3rd time. Looping one up into the cover region for a simple catch. Phoenix 42-1 but seemingly in control.

Momentum then switched again as Smailes, Ostle and Daykin who were batters 3, 4 and 5 all went relatively cheaply when bowler J Booth found his stride. Phoenix 68-4 after over 17. Smailes and the VC bowled, Daykin caught.

Skipper Milbourn joined Arnold at the crease and the pair stemmed the flow of wickets whilst punishing bad deliveries. Frustrated Todwick led by the reckless J Booth took to bowling full tosses and poorly directed throws at the stumps to try soften up Phoenix. With the two at the crease both nursing nasty injuries they battled hard to accelerate the score to 110.

Booth removed the battered and bruised skipper (25, 6 boundaries) in the 23rd over by actually getting one to pitch and cleaning bowling him. Phoenix now 5 wickets down, but needing only 21 runs.

The next 5 wickets saw the incoming batters removed for 0. Arnold carrying his bat once again to finish on 44* (6 boundaries), but Phoenix all out for 126 after 27.3 overs.

A tough defeat to take after being in control for large parts of the game. But we dust ourselves down and go again next week.

🏏 Match Report – Misterton Phoenix CC v Worksop 3rd CC🏏

Misterton Phoenix produced a dominant performance to secure an emphatic victory, winning the match by a significant margin after a strong showing with both bat and ball.

Batting first, Phoenix set the tone early with a composed and controlled innings new opening pair Arnold and Taylor provided an assured start to the innings before accelerating well for a 50 opening partnership, at the fall of Taylor for a run a ball 32. Enter Mr. Geography, who helped to map out the next phase of the innings with Arnold ticking away nicely building from strength to strength, the top order laid a solid platform contributions from all the top 7, rotating the strike well and punishing loose deliveries. As the innings progressed, an unfortunate dismissal for Smailes (13) came when the pitch let him down, Daykin succumbing to the same fate not before some big hitting for 30 from 31 also contributing to another phoenix 50 partnership, 53 this time with Arnold, next in was Ostle, coming together with Arnold and sharing a 55 run partnership which was not without jeopardy with catches going down and runout chances denied by the umpires, the middle order capitalised, accelerating effectively to post a highly competitive total. Ostle finally out for 16 with 4 overs remaining, an outstanding individual performance from Arnold finishing with 97 not out in Phoenix’ 217-6. The innings was characterised by smart partnerships and disciplined shot selection, ensuring momentum never dipped.

In response, the opposition struggled to gain any foothold against a relentless Phoenix bowling attack. From the outset, tight lines and consistent pressure made scoring difficult. Early breakthroughs put the chasing side on the back foot, and regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing.

The bowlers worked as a unit, setting the example from the off was newly appointed skipper Milbourn ably supported my Phoenix’ answer to Jason Mamoa, Daykin, both bowling with real purpose and intent.

The skipper was unfortunate to go
Wicket less in his first spell but Daykin capitalised on some circumspect batting to get the ball rolling, following an inspired bowling change by the skipper to bring on Man of Match Arnold, the premium spinner nipping 1 out first ball and followed that up with another in his opening spell. At the other end former skipper Ostle supported Arnold whirling and nabbed himself a wicket maiden to further tighten the screws.

A fight back from the opposition batting line up, meant Phoenix had to be patient and play the long game with visiting skipper and his wicket keeper standing firm for the visitors. The on loan Chris Forsyth stepping up to remove the WK after a consistent spell with his left arm swing. As the new man strode out to the crease a moment of magic from the skipper bring Daykin back in for him to remove Valente cheaply for the second season running. The skipper returned and extracted a mistake from the next man in looping a chance to Aquaman Daykin, as they couldn’t keep him out of the action. The man of the day returned following the end of the spells of Milbourn and Daykin, Arnold nipping out another to consolidate his position as Man of the Match! Again, supported from the pharmacy end by Ostle who took the visiting skipper LBW for the second season running to end the visitors resistance and bringing together batters 10 and 11 with 3 overs to survive to deny Phoenix a maximum points victory. After Ostle and Arnold had bowled out, Smailes returned to bowl the final over and only needed 1 ball to wrap up the first victory of the season.

Pheonix maintained intensity throughout and backing each other up superbly in the field. With the required run rate climbing steadily, the result was never in doubt. Phoenix closed out the game comfortably, sealing a convincing win and underlining their all-round strength.

🐦‍🔥 Man of the match: Ash Arnold 🐦‍🔥
