Saturday 20 June Stanley Ferry RCCC ride.
Riding today were, Philip, Chaxu,
Pratima, Caroline, Chris, Karen, Andy, Andrew, Graham, Julie, Martin, Neil Terry and Sharon.

Fourteen riders set from Roberttown off via Batley, Middleton Park and Woodhouse along the waterways to Stanley Ferry Cafe Bar. We said our good byes to Chaxu and Pratima at Tingley.
The Coffee was good until the machine broke down but the food was good.

We still found some head wind on the way back. The group split up at Raventhorpe heading home bound direction. Great group, great ride. Thank you for making my second lead role easier than I was thinking. Team work at it's best SMG

Thursday trail ride 18th June.
8 riders gathered together for a ride tonight. Weather when I set off looked like it could do anything which probably led me to overdressing with long sleeves and covered legs with all other riders with lower legs and forearms bare. More about this later.
Riders tonight were Karen, Andrew, Barry, Ian, Phil, John S, David L and me David H. I was allowed to set the route which is one I scoped out on Saturday. I forget that the sun will be lower when we ride on a Thursday and we do have a few areas where visibility is hampered by sun in our eyes.
We set off down Church Lane to Peep Green and Windy Bank Lane and head off to Scholes. At Wyke we go straight over the crossroads to go to Norwood Green. From Judy Woods entrance we carry on through the village and the climbing started. Up past the White Beare, down to the bridge and then up again out of Norwood Green. We turned right up the lane to Coley (another climb) and then turned left towards the main road and back towards Hipperholme. From there to Lightcliffe and then the lane down to Crow Nest Golf Club. This is where my covered arms and legs assisted to avoid nettle stings and bramble scratches. From Golf Club towards Brighouse and Jay House Lane. A meander from there back to the community centre with riders gradually splitting off to make their way home.
A warm night with clear skies and great views though the heat made the climbs hard work. Around 15 miles, 1300 feet of climbs and finished around 8.30pm.

Tuesday Evening Ride 16th June
This Tuesday I will be supporting The Jo Cox Way on telly! Yes BBC LOOK NORTH are televising a special programme live from Birstall at 6.30, ten years after Jo Cox was murdered. JCW organiser Sarfraz will be a special guest on the programme and as many as JCW cyclists, especially 2025 cyclists wearing their kit to support this occasion in Birstall. We need to meet at 6:15pm at the Birstall Market Place (Joseph Priestley’s Statue). Tim Smith has some spare 2025 kit for cyclists with their bikes.
Should riders wishing to cycle with Roberttown this evening would like to join us I don’t think anyone would object. Otherwise can someone volunteer to lead the normal ride. Please put a comment if you are meeting in Birstall at 6:15pm or wishing to cycle from the Community Centre at 6:30pm.

Saturday Ride Report 13th June
Meeting at Roberttown Community Centre this morning were Graham, Ian, Jason, Jackie, Stephen and myself, Ken. Numbers were down as seven or eight were cycling the charity ride, “The Big Ride Home”, supporting those experiencing homelessness or in crisis and a number were on an organised Audax ride.
So Plan A was to cycle on a lovely, scenic route through Queensbury, Keighley, Silsden, Addingham to Bolton Bridge for our cafe stop. Well the stiff, gale force winds put pay to that ride as it is usually quite breezy on the Queensbury roads on a calm day.
So Plan B, the backup plan, a new cafe stop for our club, The Maltings Tea Room at South Milford. A little unfortunate for Ian and Graham as it meant back tracking for them as we made our way to Shaw Cross. From there it was our usual ride to Castleford and onto Fairburn through to South Milford for our stop at The Maltings. We had wind assistance all the way. Jackie and Steve left us at Castleford as they needed to be back home early afternoon. The cafe was very welcoming, gave us excellent service and food and one which we would go back to. As we hadn’t planned the route beforehand we came up with the route home over eggs, beans, bacon and toast.
Plan C was the route back to South Milford and then on to Ledsham and Ledston for a return to Castleford. Ian and Jason, after a slight hiccup, led us along the Castleford Greenway which brought us onto the Aberford Road near Stanley. Then it was a drag against the wind through Outwood, Carr Gate, East Ardsley and Country Basket to Shaw Cross where we split up for cycling home.
For the most part we either had the breeze with us or we were able to shelter from the wind especially along the Castleford Greenway. Excellent navigation by Ian on the return journey and brilliant shielding against the breeze by the strong riders Jason and Graham.
Not the advertised RCCC Ride but Plan B worked out well for us, very light traffic, quiet roads once past Castleford and traffic free Greenway. Just a note; it is important to put a comment on page or on our WhatsApp group so that we know who is cycling in case we need to change the route due to the weather. This way cyclists will not be left behind or not meeting us on the route or at the advertised cafe stop. So we had a great ride out today and hope the rest of our Roberttown Club members had an equally enjoyable day out.

Saturday Ride 13th June 8:30
Meet at Roberttown Community Centre for a scenic ride to Bolton Bridge Cafe. The route goes via Queensbury, Keighley, Steeton and Addingham. Lovely rolling countryside with no steep hills. The return journey is along the back roads to Ilkley and then on to Menston, Guiseley, Shipley and Bradford. The estimated distance is about 55miles but will be at a social, relaxed pace. Many of our cyclists are riding the Big Ride Home Charity or the Audex Challenge so numbers are likely to be down so please comment if you intend to cycle.

Tuesday Evening Ride Report 9th June
Heavy showers throughout today but this evening was sunny and dry though there was a strong breeze. At the Community Centre this evening were Neil, Phil, David L and myself, Ken. With the strong breeze in mind a meandering route was suggested to give us a break from the wind. We made our way to the Spen Valley Greenway, leaving it in Heckmondwike to climb up to Healey and then made our way along White Lee Road to drop down to Birstall. Continuing on Bradford Road we branch off at Moor Lane and meandered around Birkenshaw and eventually arrived in East Bierley. A fast descent of Cliff Hollins Lane followed by a long climb up Wyke Lane and finally our normal route back via Scholes and Windy Bank Lane. Some beautiful views across the hills on our descent of Cliff Hollings Lane and lots of sunshine. A sixteen mile loop, thirteen hundred feet of climbing and back at Roberttown for 8:15pm. A steady ride, all keeping together, and motorists very polite. Perfect!

Tuesday Evening Ride 9th June
Meet at Roberttown Community Centre for a 6:30pm departure. A local route, at a social pace, suitable for first time cyclists wanting to experience club cycling. Distance will be about sixteen miles back for around 8:15pm. Lights probably not essential but still a good idea. Please do not park in the Community car park. Put a comment if you intend to cycle.

Ride report 6th June.

Eight riders came out today for our ride to Meltham. Some showers about before our Marsden cafe stop but they had blown themselves out by the time we resumed our ride back home.
A very busy Wood Lane and Helm Lane grom diverted traffic, due to Colne Bridge currently being shut while it is replaced. We took the very good, newly surfaced, canal side path in Bradley to get us into Huddersfield, then made our way to Honley via Lockwood and the chocolate box picture that Magdale presents.
Plenty of climbing to Oldfield, Wishaw and out of Meltham to reach Marsden, as the showers sporadically pulsed on and off.
Nice food and a huge hot chocolate at the cafe then a swift descent back home, as we left the bigger hills behind us.
Riding today were
Karen, Pratima, Jackie, Julie, Chaxu, Andrew, Ken and Steve.
