Player of the Month: 🏆

Dec: Since Dez came back, he’s hit the ground running. Whether he’s played in midfield or defence, he’s consistently put in strong performances and shown exactly what he brings to the team. He’s settled straight back in with the lads, and I’m really glad to see him back home where he belongs. Looking forward to seeing what Dez can do next year — well done, Dez!

Chip: Back at Lower Hopton like he never left. Week in week out he’s been consistent and reliable, and harder to get past with his go go gadget leg last ditch tackles.

Good to have you back and hopefully for the full duration next season.

deserved winner 👏

A dramatic end to the 25/26 campaign as the lads battled back twice to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Great Preston.

The hosts took the lead after 12 minutes in bizarre fashion, as the ball somehow looped over Bowman’s head to make it 1-0. Great Preston doubled their advantage on 34 minutes, turning home a cross into the box to send us into the break 2-0 down.

But the response in the second half showed exactly what this team is all about.

On 60 minutes, Rob Hiscox produced a moment of magic, dancing through the defence before smashing home to pull one back at 2-1.

Just four minutes later came the turning point. Jack Carter was brought down in the box, and up stepped the gaffer Dec Goodman from the bench to bury the penalty and level things at 2-2.

Great Preston regained the lead on 75 minutes to make it 3-2, but there was still time for one more moment from a man who has delivered so many over the years. In the 81st minute, Hiscox struck again, smashing the ball home to secure a deserved 3-3 draw.

And that’s a wrap on the 25/26 campaign.
A huge thank you goes to the players’ committee and all of the supporters for their commitment throughout the season.

Our final Man of the Match goes to Rob Hiscox in his final game before hanging up his boots. Over the last two seasons, Hissy has produced countless magical moments, and he’ll be hugely missed by everyone at the club.

Hopton produced a commanding performance to secure a 3–0 victory, controlling the match from start to finish with clinical finishing and solid defensive work.

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute following excellent build-up play from Callum Archer, who showed great awareness to set up Anthony Owens. Owens made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball home to give Hopton an early lead and set the tone for the match.

Just before the interval, Hopton doubled their advantage in the 45th minute. Harry Bowman delivered a dangerous free kick aimed at Jack Carter, which ultimately fell kindly for Owens, who reacted quickest to tap in his second goal of the game.

Half-time: Hopton 2–0

Hopton continued their dominance after the break. In the 55th minute, a long ball over the top sparked another attacking move. Archer once again played a key role, winning a crucial challenge to regain possession before Jake Bird emphatically smashed the ball home to make it 3–0.

The match took an unexpected turn late on when Chip Cafu entered the field like an angry Beaver, quickly becoming involved in multiple confrontations. With tensions rising and control slipping, the referee made the decision to call the game.

Despite the disruption, Hopton’s performance was already beyond doubt a confident and dominant display securing a deserved 3–0 win.

Man of the Match: Anthony Owens, whose two goals and constant attacking threat proved decisive.

Match Report: Hopton 2–5 Collegians

Hopton made a bright start but were ultimately overpowered by a clinical Collegians side in an entertaining seven-goal encounter.

It was Hopton who struck first after 23 minutes, thanks to some excellent build-up play. Hopton worked the ball neatly before Sam Sykes unleashed a superb effort from outside the box, firing home to give his side a deserved 1–0 lead.

However, the advantage was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Collegians responded with a quick equaliser, tapping in from close range to make it 1–1. The momentum quickly swung in their favour, and by the 32nd minute they had turned the game around completely, finishing neatly into the bottom corner to go 2–1 ahead.

Collegians continued to press and extended their lead just before the break. A well-taken strike in the 43rd minute made it 3–1, leaving Hopton with a mountain to climb heading into half-time.

After the restart, Hopton showed renewed determination. On the hour mark, Max Wilson delivered a dangerous free-kick that the goalkeeper could only spill, allowing Tom Hirst to react quickest and slot home to bring it back to 3–2 and reignite the contest.

The game remained competitive, but Hopton suffered a setback when Lewis Gillam—briefly channelling his inner war hero—tried to soldier on with a dead leg before eventually accepting defeat and limping off.

In the closing stages, Collegians took control once more, adding two late goals to seal a convincing 5–2 victory and put the result beyond doubt.

Sam Sykes was named Man of the Match for his outstanding goal and overall contribution.

Hopton Return to Winning Ways with Dominant Display

Hopton produced a commanding performance to secure a well-earned victory, controlling much of the match and showing resilience throughout.

The first real opportunity came early on 10 minutes, as excellent work from Callum Archer down the flank led to a dangerous cross into the box. Jack Carter met it well, forcing a superb save from the Old Centralians goalkeeper.

Despite limited clear-cut chances in the first half, Hopton were comfortably the stronger side, dictating play and maintaining control. Their dominance, however, wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard as the teams went into the break level.

Half Time

Old Centralians threatened shortly after the restart, creating their first meaningful chance in the 55th minute, but the effort was dragged wide.
Hopton responded with continued pressure, and their breakthrough came in the 74th minute. A well-delivered corner from George Crowther found Rob Hiscox, who made no mistake with the finish to put Hopton ahead.

The advantage was doubled in the 87th minute, this time from another set piece. George Wilkes delivered a precise corner, and Max Wilson rose highest to power home a header.

Old Centralians managed to pull one back late on in the 89th minute, but it proved only a consolation as Hopton comfortably saw out the game.

Full Time

A dominant and disciplined performance from Hopton sees them return to winning ways with confidence.

Man of the Match: Josh Hartley, who impressed while playing out of position.

Special Mentions: Callum Archer and Jack Carter, both of whom put in tireless shifts and covered significant ground throughout the match.

Hopton 0-1 AFCV Copley

The game began with both sides settling into a steady rhythm, with the first notable opportunity arriving in the 12th minute. Anthony Owens showed great determination to chase down a loose ball, but his effort was ultimately denied by a composed save from the goalkeeper.

As the first half progressed, chances remained limited until the 43rd minute when Kieran Holmes produced an excellent save to keep the scores level. However, from the resulting corner, Copley capitalised and found the breakthrough, taking a 1–0 lead into half time.

After the break, Hopton looked to respond. In the 52nd minute, Crowther tested the opposition from outside the box, forcing a save from the keeper. Crowther was involved again in the 61st minute, but his second attempt proved more comfortable for the goalkeeper to deal with.

The final 15 minutes saw a surge of attacking intent from Hopton, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Despite sustained pressure, Copley’s defence held firm. The last opportunity fell to Rob Hiscox from a free kick, but his effort was blocked by the defensive wall, summing up a frustrating end to the match.

Man of the Match goes to Jack Carter, who delivered a commanding performance at the back and proved to be a rock in defence throughout the game.

It was a lively encounter packed with drama, momentum swings, and a dramatic late twist as both sides battled to a 3-3 draw.

The game sprang into life in the 31st minute when George Wilkes delivered a dangerous ball across the face of goal, allowing Jack Carter to arrive at the back post and tap home with ease to give his side the lead.

However, the advantage was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Tingley produced a moment of quality, unleashing a superb long-range strike that flew into the net to level the score at 1-1 heading into half-time.

The second half began at a frantic pace, and within three minutes of the restart, Kieran Holmes showed great vision to loft a ball over the top for Ben Wilson, who timed his run perfectly and finished calmly to restore the lead at 2-1.

Moments later, controversy and comedy combined in the 50th minute. Chip Cafu’s dramatic tumble in the box — described by some as a “belly flop” that nearly shook the pitch — earned a penalty. Harry Bowman stepped up confidently and slotted home from the spot to extend the lead to 3-1.

Despite trailing, the opposition refused to give in. In the 87th minute, a precise through ball found Tingley, who kept his composure to finish neatly and reduce the deficit to 3-2, setting up a tense finale.

Deep into stoppage time, the drama reached its peak. Tingley surged through once again, and as Harry Bowman attempted a last-ditch clearance off the line, the ball was inadvertently diverted into his own net, completing a remarkable comeback and sealing the game at 3-3.

Man of the Match went to Anthony Owens, whose tireless performance caused constant problems for the opposition throughout the game.

On a positive note, Brad Lowther continues his fine form, securing back-to-back fireball Player of the Month award for April after another series of dominant performances, including finding the net in last week’s fixture.
