Allerford FC Match Report

17/08/2025
Pre-season Friendly (Away)
Cotford Rovers FC 1-2 Allerford FC

Cotford Rovers hosted Allerford FC for their first ever home match, on a very hot and sunny morning at Cotford st Luke playing fields. From the first whistle Allerford pressured the Cotford back line and within 2 minutes it paid off with a fantastic interception from Kingsley Osei Bonsu and a clinical pass from Alex Harding into the feet of Callum Hawker who drove forward into the penalty area and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper!

This seemed to be the theme throughout the match as a well organised and determined Allerford constantly put pressure on the Cotford backline. Half way through the first half Jordan Wightman forced a mistake from the Cotford defender, drove forward and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper similar to the first goal, 2-0 to Allerford.

Cotford played some very good football and tried to break down a spirited and organised Allerford, but the away side matched them and never gave up throughout! A penalty in the second half for Cotford reduced the deficit for the home side but Allerford managed to control the final moments and keep the score at 1-2. Giving Allerford FC their first ever win as a club.

Man of the Match was a difficult decision to make with every single member of the Allerford team today up for the award, the attitude and effort from the whole team today was superb. Substitutions proved vital with injuries and fatigue understandably starting to kick in, rotations were needed with a reliable Brooklyn Dunn coming into the team. Allan Woodhall led the team with clear instructions throughout on the side lines. The Joint Man of the Match award goes to, debutant Callum Hawker and Captain Kyle Hutchings who were the 2 stand out performers today 🌟🌟

The game was played in fantastic spirit with both sides giving it their all despite the sun beaming down throughout. Thankyou to Cotford Rovers for hosting us today for your first ever home game, you're a great group and a fantastic addition to our league. Welcome to the Taunton and district Sunday Football League. Good luck for the upcoming season.

This Sunday 3rd August, Allerford FC hosts its first match against Terry's Panthers at Hare Park, Allerford 10.30am kick-off. Following the tragic coach crash involving Minehead Middle School earlier this month, as a sign of respect both clubs will observe a minute silence before kick-off and wear black armbands. Last night, we held our second and final awards ceremony for the 2024/2025 season. Set in the picturesque Hare Park in Allerford, the beautiful weather and evening sun created the perfect outdoor setting for an evening filled with fun, laughter, and speeches. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the season.
Despite a challenging season with no wins, two draws, and plenty of losses, it certainly didn't dampen anyone's spirits – quite the opposite! The evening blended serious awards celebrating achievements with good-natured recognition of the more humorous moments from the past year.

Most Improved Player πŸ†
Jordan Wightman was recognised for his fantastic development throughout the season. The award was presented by and Garry Keogh. Congratulations, Jordan!

Players' Player of the Season πŸ†
This prestigious award, voted on by the players' peers, saw several strong contenders, including Dean Williams, Garry Keogh, and Mason Rose. However, the clear winner was Kyle Hutchings.

Young Player of the Season πŸ†
The award for Young Player of the Season went to Mason Rose. The 17-year-old has had an outstanding season, which included scoring his first goal for the club!

Manager's Player of the Season πŸ†
Manager Andy Rose proudly presented the Manager's Player of the Season award to Kyle Hutchings. As team captain, Kyle consistently put the team before himself, cementing his place as a vital cog in the team's success. Well done, Kyle!

Clubman of the Year πŸ†
The final award of the night, the Clubman of the Year, was presented by last year's winner, Alex Harding, alongside committee members Kyle Hutchings. This year, the award went to Andy Rose for his significant contributions to the club over the past two seasons.

The Final Whistle for St. Berthevin

Well, this is it. The awards have been presented, and the final night of St. Berthevin has arrived. The final curtain has been drawn.
Just a few short years ago, our club was formed as a development team for six-a-side. Interest quickly grew, and we soon transitioned into a full Sunday league club. Our initial purpose was always to provide football opportunities for those who might struggle to get game time at other clubs in West Somerset. All we ever asked was for those who joined us to bring a good, positive attitude and respect our values.
In our first season, we managed two wins. This season, we might have only secured two draws, but week after week, we still fielded a team. The club has certainly had its ups and downs, and competing against teams filled with Saturday league players was always a challenge.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been a positive part of St. Berthevin. It's been quite a journey, and that journey has now reached its resting place.
Thank you,
Andy Rose

The end of St Berthevin!

Match Report
4th May 2025
St Berthevin 1-3 PSV

The final game of the season saw St Berthevin host the league front runners and cup winners, PSV, at Hare Park, Allerford.
Facing a youthful, energetic, and talented PSV team, the Buzzards, languishing at the bottom of the table with no wins to their name, braced themselves for a potentially long morning of defending. However, in a surprising turn of events, St Berthevin saved their best performance for the final match of the 2024/25 season, growing in confidence as the game unfolded.
Despite this newfound resilience, the Buzzards fell behind from a well-delivered corner and a powerful header. This was PSV's first clear opportunity, coming after St Berthevin had a penalty appeal turned down and created several promising moments from corners and free kicks. A second goal for PSV just before half-time meant the score stood at 2-0 at the break. However, the half-time team talk for St Berthevin was filled with positivity, acknowledging the effort and confidence displayed in the first 45 minutes.
For the first time this season, the second half performance from the Buzzards was genuinely impressive, characterised by renewed energy and attacking determination. Substitutes Josh Paul, Brooky Dunn, Cam O'Grady, and Tim Starkey all demonstrated the significant impact substitutes can have on a game. The momentum continued as St Berthevin pressed forward, and even a defensive mix-up that resulted in a third goal for PSV failed to dampen their spirited attitude. The Buzzards continued to create chances, and their persistence finally paid off when the ball was swept into the net from the centre of the box.
The game concluded with a 3-1 victory for PSV, but for St Berthevin, the result felt like so much more. Bravery, determination, and team spirit were evident for the entire 90 minutes, from the goalkeeper to the forward players.

There were numerous nominations for Man of the Match, but ultimately, Ash Horton, the left-back, was outstanding. He displayed skill, calmness under pressure, and defensive aggression, epitomising the team's unity in their final game of the season!

Buzzards Fall to Dominant Hulan Side

Castle School, Taunton - Sunday, 27th April 2025

The penultimate fixture of the season proved to be a challenging encounter for the Buzzards as they succumbed to a comprehensive 11-0 defeat at the hands of a very impressive Hulan team. Played on the smooth surface of the 3G pitch under a warm Sunday morning sun, the match saw Hulan display some delightful flowing football. Their cohesive passing and intelligent movement consistently carved out opportunities throughout the contest.
Despite the scoreline, there were glimpses of promise for the Buzzards. Brandon Johnson delivered a commendable performance on the left side of midfield, showcasing some lovely skill and determination. Up front, Alex Harding earned the Man of the Match accolade for his tireless efforts and constant threat, particularly in the second half.
The Buzzards will now look to regroup and focus on their final game of the season, a home tie against PSV at Allerford next Sunday.

St Berthevin Show Grit and Promise Against Cup Finalists Northwalls

Despite the final scoreline, St Berthevin's performance against league rivals and cup finalists Northwalls on Sunday was another display of resilience. Facing a formidable Northwalls side known for their pace, physicality, and ability, the Buzzards demonstrated a fighting spirit that bodes well.
The first half saw St Berthevin hold their own for large periods, going into the break trailing by a respectable 3-1. This solid performance was particularly noteworthy given Dean Williams stepping up for his debut in goal. Displaying impressive versatility and a commendable team-first attitude, Williams put in a strong showing between the posts and was unlucky to concede on a couple of occasions.

While Northwalls' early pressure threatened to overwhelm the Buzzards, St Berthevin responded with character. Captain Hutchings led by example, providing a perfectly weighted pass for Alex Harding to calmly slot home, injecting belief into his side.
The St Berthevin defence, marshalled impressively by Garry Keogh, stood firm for significant stretches. Later in the game, Hutchings' move into a back four further solidified their resolve. Throughout the match, the Buzzards displayed glimpses of their attacking capabilities, with Watkins, Johnson, Rose, and Harding all enjoying neat moments going forward, suggesting a growing threat in their attacking play.
Ultimately, they faced a very good Northwalls team who played the game in the right spirit. St Berthevin matched their opponents' sporting attitude and will undoubtedly be wishing Northwalls the very best in their upcoming cup final.

πŸ†The Beach Hut Man of the Match award deservedly went to Garry Keogh, whose commanding performance in defence was a testament to St Berthevin's overall resilience on the day.

This match, despite the score, highlights the fighting spirit and emerging talent within the St Berthevin squad, providing a positive foundation to build upon.

St Berthevin Show Spirit Despite Knowles Lane Challenge.

16 th April
Carhampton 10- 0 St Berthevin

Knowles Lane, Dunster - While the scoreline ultimately favoured a dominant Carhampton side, St Berthevin's visit to Knowles Lane was marked by moments of resilience and a clear determination. St Berthevin knew they were in for a challenging afternoon, and they approached the game with commendable spirit.

St Berthevin's players displayed a strong work ethic throughout the match. They tracked back diligently, attempting to close down space and limit Carhampton's potent attack. Goalkeeper Allan Woodhall demonstrated bravery and made several important saves that, while ultimately not enough to keep a clean sheet, prevented the scoreline from becoming even more significant.
The St Berthevin midfield and defence showed moments of cohesive play. While they found it difficult to break down a well-organised Carhampton defence, their commitment to playing football was commendable.
Younger members of the St Berthevin squad gained valuable experience.
The team's spirit remained unbroken despite the scoreline, with players encouraging each other and continuing to battle until the final whistle.

Williton Rockets 4-1 St Berthevin

Buzzards' Cup Dream Dashed in Williton Loss
St Berthevin's Mike Stewart Cup dreams were shattered on a chilly, yet sunny, Sunday morning in Williton. Despite a valiant effort from the Buzzards, a second-half surge from the home team proved decisive.

The atmosphere crackled from the outset, with a boisterous Buzzards away support outnumbering the home crowd, fueling the team's determination. The first half was a tense affair, a testament to the Buzzards' resilience. Solid defending, a battling midfield, and pace up front frustrated their hosts. A counter-attack involving Johnson, Goddard, Taylor, and Mason Rose nearly broke the deadlock. However, the first 45 minutes ended goalless, setting up a nail-biting second half.

The tension boiled over on the sidelines, with the WR manager receiving a straight red card for a tirade of abuse aimed at the referee.

WR emerged after the interval, seizing the initiative and grabbing the lead. A devastating blow followed for the Buzzards when goalkeeper Watkins suffered a serious knee injury, forcing him off and Nathan Dunn to step into the breach. The momentum swung decisively, and WR capitalised, adding two more goals to put the Buzzards firmly on the back foot.
Showing their fighting spirit, the Buzzards rallied. Substitute Alex Harding, replacing the hard-working Johnson, provided a glimmer of hope, finishing clinically after a well-weighted pass from Taylor Rose. However, WR sealed their victory with a well-executed headed goal, leaving the Buzzards to rue missed opportunities.
Despite the disappointment, the Buzzards can take heart from their performance. Their manager, Andy Rose, expressed immense pride in his team's effort and progress highlighting the remarkable turnaround of their opponents. Just a season ago, WR had endured a 21-0 loss and finished bottom of the league. Now, they are cup finalists – a testament to the unpredictable nature of football.

The Seaview Fisheries Man of the Match award went to Ash Horton, who delivered an outstanding midfield performance, particularly in the first half, demonstrating his pivotal role in the Buzzards' battling display. While the cup final eludes them this time, the Buzzards have shown they are a team on the rise.
