At this time of year everyone starts with good intentions and setting goals for theirselves but how do you make sure that you achieve them? Below are 5 ways on what goals you should set yourself and how to keep them.
1. How to choose a goal to set?
If there were no barriers in life what would you like to do? If you achieved this goal you are thinking about how would it make you feel? Would you be super proud of yourself? If the answer is yes then the accomplishment is worth the journey then set that goal!
2. How to achieve it?
Work backwards from that goal. If for e,g your goal was to achieve a and your starting from scratch how long would it take you to achieve that? If you follow a 6month marathon program enter a race that’s 6 months away and the program will be broken down into bits so the first week might only be a couple of miles here and there but every week you will be adding to the mileage to work towards that 26.2
3. What if I stop pushing towards my goals for a few weeks because of holidays or work commitments or just because?
Don’t beat yourself up see it as a reset in your motivation for the goal get back on track and see if you can catch back up with the program you are following.
4. I don’t believe that I can achieve this goal although I would love to!
I believe anyone can achieve anything and I have good reason to because I have cycled with triple amputees from Paris to london I’ve seen double amputees complete an ironman I’ve seen incredible people achieve extraordinary things. If you don’t believe you can achieve that marathon don’t put any pressure on yourself by entering anything. First of all get your trainers on go outside and start running, the first time you do it set a small target just to the end of the road ,next time go further until you can enter a 5k then a 10k then a half marathon and then a marathon!
5. What to do when I achieve it?
Set yourself another one!
