MK Irish U18 0-0 Arlesey Town U18
MK Irish U18 began their league campaign with a goalless draw against Arlesey Town U18 in a game of few clear-cut opportunities.
The visitors created the first real opening after 11 minutes when a corner found an unmarked Arlesey player, but his header drifted wide of the target.
Irish were forced into an early change shortly afterwards, with Samir unable to continue. Nathan Quill was introduced in his place as the hosts looked to settle into the contest.
The match remained an end-to-end affair without either side managing to take control. Arlesey had another opportunity in the 36th minute, but Declan Moody was able to collect comfortably.
The best chance of the first half came in stoppage time. Rowan’s free-kick caused problems for the Arlesey goalkeeper, who spilled the ball onto the goal line. Quill was unable to react quickly enough to turn the loose ball home, leaving the scores level at the break.
The second half began with Arlesey again looking the more threatening in front of goal. On 50 minutes, Quill was beaten by a lifted ball, allowing an Arlesey attacker to get a shot away, although the effort sailed high and wide.
The visitors continued to threaten, firing narrowly wide in the 59th minute before another opportunity was put just beyond the far post two minutes later.
Irish made their second change on 68 minutes, with Calvin West replaced by Kuba Szatkowski.
Moody was then called into action in the 73rd minute, comfortably dealing with a speculative effort from distance.
Further changes followed, with Stevenson making way for Mockett before Harry Wright was replaced by Matanmi with ten minutes remaining.
Arlesey appealed for a penalty in the 87th minute after a crowded incident inside the box, although the referee waved away the claims.
The visitors had one final opportunity to sn**ch all three points in the 90th minute when they worked an effort from the edge of the area, but Moody got down well to make an important save.
Neither side could find a late winner, and the points were shared at the final whistle.
