So, as promised…we move onto the club awards.

Which, of course starts with Club batsman of the season, and after breaking a Divisonal record could only be one man! Khurram Mohmand, what a fantastic season he had. This was followed by Club bowler of the season, which was won by Alan Deitch finishing the season with 41 wickets, he also got the best figures of the year, with 7-20, another phenomenal year, by a phenomenal bowler. We then moved to our all rounder of the season, which was won by Ans Bilal, Ans continues the trend of having a great season, with bat and ball this year he is a huge part of our division winning efforts.

6s cup this year, no, I haven’t used the same photo twice, it’s that man again, Ans Bilal, hitting a massive 21 6s, 7 more than second place Nish Pitta, who demanded a recount, but still came up 7 short! This seasons Duck Cup was ‘won’ by Matt Cox, who has been done dirty this year. But, with 8 ducks, takes the bread, shall we say.

Club Players player of the year is of course, Khurram, who won in a landslide victory! Whilst Sunday’s players player of the year was won by Sam Seidu. Finally, the Tom Cooksey award, Clubman of the year, was won by, you guessed it Tom Cooksey, who has won it 8 times over the last decade! What an absolute champion!

One final shoutout for John Shaw, who arranged a spectacular night! I’d also like thank everyone who has made this season so special in so many ways, 2021 truly was the year of Milton Bryan, what will 2022 bring? We’ll have to wait and see!

Well, then. I’ve finally recovered after a couple of drinks, or more. What a phenomenal turn out for our end of year awards.

51 people came along, and talk of a Milton Bryan women’s team continues! On to the awards, and we started the evening by club captain Ed Hamill collecting once again our Division 3 trophies. On top of that he also collected the captains cup, which he had won earlier in the year. He was also a winner of the 6 a side this year, which is a wonderful treble for him, adding to the Elstow Invitational plate which we won last year!

Following on from this, Ross Greig collected his League Bowler of the year Trophy and Khurram Mohmand collected his League Batsman trophy.

Nabil Moughal yet again, won the First Team batsman of the year award (despite only playing 6 times, the boy is a genius with the bat) and Ross collected the First Team bowler of the year award. The Second Team batsman of the year was Khurram, whilst Gavin Knight won yet another Second Team bowler of the year. Moving onto the Sunday side Sam Seidu won Sunday batsman of the year and Alan Deitch won Sunday bowler of the year.

Due to how many great performances we had just one post won’t cover it, so bare with me. Congratulations to all our winners thus far

Message from the Chairman -

Hello everyone, here’s just a quick and brief update to all members regarding the season ahead. As you are all probably aware, Coronavirus has taken the country by storm and there’s been lots of guidelines put out by the government. So it brings me to make a little statement regarding this. The committee has come to the decision to cancel nets, the Working party, Captains Cup and all upcoming friendlies. We’ve also come to the decision to cancel the 6 a side for this year as the event takes an awful lot of planning and organisation and we feel we won’t have the time to do this sufficiently. As for tour, this will be postponed for now, but depending on the next few months.. Never say never! The league are holding a meeting this week and we’ll update you further when we know! Apologies for this lads but we all feel this is the right thing to do! Hopefully see you all soon! 🏏

Today saw the 1st fixtures of the Indoor Cricket season for the mighty Bryan and MBCC fielded their strongest available VI at Choice Cricket... Well, nearly. It was almost a IV as the 1st team skipper pulled out with a suspected hangover and another player had to be dragged out of bed by his last-minute lift!

So MBCC fielded their strongest available V for these must-win fixtures. Captain, Ben Clarke lost the toss and we took to the field. It seemed to be a good toss to lose, as Real Redbourn lost 3 wickets in 4 overs, but then it all went a bit bandy as the next pair put on 100 to finish their innings on 174-5. The boys rued the missing fielder and went on to rue the missing batsman too, as we were all out for 97.

It was a weary team that took to the field for the second game of the day against Hatfield Crusaders. And it was a good effort to restrict them to 147, but 4 out of the 5 MBCC batsmen were run out as we self-destructed and finished the game with just 59 runs in reply.

Our next fixture is in 2 weeks' time, where we hope to field a full VI to give ourselves a hint of a chance.

Day 3 of the 2019 MBCC Tour of Isle of Wight. There were a few injuries for the game against Ventnor which meant that the day's Captain, Tour Virgin 2, Mark Emond, was unable to play and would have to captain from the sidelines. He was, probably, the most organised and serious skipper that we have ever had on a tour (Neale Shearn aside). He had filled his notebook out with statistics and scenarios, player profiles and scouting reports but, as we all know, it all goes out of the window when you cross the white line.

It was a weary-looking side that took to the field in the most idyllic setting you can imagine. Ventnor Cricket ground was in a bowl, with the pitch in the middle and boundaries sloping up on all sides. You had a sea view from the pavilion balcony too. A stylish straight drive for 4 on most grounds would end up coming back towards you at Ventnor.

Mark lost the toss to the accompaniment of Flower of Scotland and that was the closest MBCC got to winning anything that day.

Cricket is a cruel game and yesterday's heroes were brought down to earth with a bang. Dave Hayward was unable to move in the field and the ball kept finding him (and going through him for 4, generally) while Bryn, after scoring 145* the day before, was out to a tame caught and bowled for a golden duck - one of 4 in the MBCC innings, I think.

Ventnor scored 170-5 off their 30 overs, while a tired MBCC only managed 100 all out in reply. But the boys weren't disheartened, even after Dom managed to lose a rugby ball in the trees surrounding the ground, and they made their way down to Steephill Cove, where they supped champagne as the sun set on this tour to end all tours.
