This weekends fixture saw us enter the Scottish Amatuer Cup proper for the first time as an U19s team. Our opponents, an experienced Amatuer outfit in Johnstone Burgh AFC. After an initial expected nervy first 15 mins or so our young team settled into the game and as time ticked by we really grew into the fixture carving out a couple of early half chances one of which should have at least forced the away keeper into action, however CC managed to blast the ball high over the bar. The game was fairly fast and furious with Johnstone using their experience when needed and Milngavie constantly trying to force the game and push the tempo. Indeed the best chance of the first half fell to the Wandies as a well executed move with Scott providing the overlap and a great cross to the back post clattered back of the bar from a Bell header, a little less meat on the header and it may well have ended up in the net. HT 0-0
Despite a good start from Milngavie to the second half we appeared to retreat into ourselves for 20min allowing the opposition to dictate the ball forcing a couple of decent saves from Aaron.
First blood however came from Milngavie as a great cross into the box from Scott was met by Finn Bell on the volley which flashed by the Johnstone keeper into the back of the net
A big 15 mins for our young team as we knew the opposition would push hard to get the equaliser. Unfortunately for us we conceded a corner 10 mins later which was floated to the back post and was nodded back into the middle of the 6 yard box where the Johnstone forward unopposed had an easy tap in ⦠a cheap goal to lose after working so hard to get our noses in front.
Many thanks as always to our sponsors and for the healthy crowd who turned up to support us.
