What have you done this month to make you feel proud?
It’s time to reflect on all your achievements so far. Always celebrate accomplishments – no matter how small and remember that small changes make a big difference over time. Reflection is key when we are revisiting our SMART goals. Ensure you track your progress so that you can see how far you’ve come, even if you haven’t yet reached your ultimate goal. This will help you stay positive, which is the key to continued success. It is important to not feel discouraged if you haven’t accomplished the goals you set out to achieve. Remember there are always going to be setbacks but what really matters is thinking about how to overcome these barriers. This is where the problem-solving cycle comes in handy. The Problem-Solving Cycle is an effective step-by-step approach to finding possible solutions.
A step by step guide on how to use The Problem-Solving Cycle
🤍 Step One – Identify the problem
What is the problem you would like to deal with?
For example: I really want to go for a walk after I finish work but instead, I tend to sit on the sofa and watch Netflix for 2 hours. I am also currently struggling with my motivation to do some form of activity.
🧡Step Two - Brainstorm solutions
Think of all the possible solutions. Be creative and think outside of the box. Examples may include the following:
🤙Asking a friend or family member to go for a walk with me.
👟Putting a pair of trainers beside the door as a gentle reminder.
👂 Downloading a podcast to listen to whilst I walk.
🚶♀️Planning a new walking route.
🙂Joining a walking group.
❤️Step Three – Pick a solution
Which solution did you resonate with most?
For example, I am going to try downloading a podcast which has an interesting topic and I will listen to it whilst I walk along the beach.
💜Step Four – Implement your solution
If the solution doesn’t work for you don’t worry, try a different one.
💛Step Five - Review results
Have you overcome the barrier? If not, repeat this process until you find the best fit for you.
