U15 GIRLS CEMENT PLACE IN NATIONAL CUP KNOCKOUTS
🟡🔵R&C 8 - 3 Barnsley🔴⚫️
Last night, the Redcar & Cleveland U15 Girls cemented their place in the ESFA National Cup Knockout rounds
Lifted by the returns of Upex and Lightwing Redcar set their stall out from minute one pressing every ball and it took only 7 minutes for them to get off the mark as Millie Todd scored after driving into the Barnsley box and smashing it past the keeper. Both Heathcock and Jardine got on the scoresheet after some great play in the middle of the park & Lily Lightwing also got on the scoresheet after winning the ball deep in the Barnsley half
Barnsley themselves didn’t register a shot on goal until the 30th minute but pulled one back before half time when a looping shot wasn’t held by Parfitt and was tapped in on the line, and then again when failure to clear gave the Barnsley number 3 time to loft one in which evaded everyone and ended up in the net
The Second half didn’t start too brightly for Redcar with Barnsley again on the scoresheet after another speculative effort making the score 4-3, but Redcar weren’t about to let anything slip again, within a matter of minutes Curry beat the offside trap & rounded the GK to make it 5 and then Heathcock scored her second when Pickavance found her in the 6 Yard box. Pickavance herself in her best performance then made it 7 after she was adjudged to be fouled in the area, & she coolly finished from the spot.
Redcar pressed & dominated the rest of the game & it became 8 when Pickavance again found herself in the final 3rd and whipped another dangerous ball in which was turned into her own net by the Barnsley defender.
There were further chances for Jardine, Curry and Hussain but the form of the Barnsley GK kept the score down.
The win now sees R&C in the National Cup for the first time in their history with one more home game to go against Hyndburn & Ribble Valley in December
“What more can you do except applaud these girls, they are a credit to their schools and their grassroots clubs, turning up in horrible conditions & putting in a performance like that
A big thank you to Middlesbrough College for their support this season 📚
