George had a super exciting day as his year group had a trip to Hever Castle & Gardens today! When I asked what they did let's just say he was vague but he did tell me all about the lunch they all ate!!! 🤦🏼♀️ To be fair by the time he got home he was absolutely shattered, a clear sign they'd had a brilliant day even if he wasn't able to tell us anything about it!
On this day during his cancer treatment we also had a little excursion. We'd gone in to start the 4th of his 14 rounds of chemo but before we got going headed to where they do CT scans along with one of The Royal Marsden - Sutton Play Therapists. We were starting the process of trying to get George used to lying still in order to have things like CT scans as well as his up and coming proton therapy without needing a general anaesthetic.
We're so lucky that ultimately he nailed this even if he still needs to be knocked out to cope in the MRI scanner. Can you imagine the alternative...he'd have had something like 50 GA's in one year if he hadn't mastered this, although saying that sadly this is the unavoidable reality for parents of younger children with cancer 😢
As for Woody and I, before he went to work we had a visit from the brilliant Emma McKie Personal Training. I love that each week we're learning something new and she's always changing things up for every session! I caught up with my mum and dad for lunch, had the realisation when I put the recycling out that Woody and I will soon be turning into eggs (34+ eggs in a week...check us out trying to get that protein in 🥚💪🏃♀️) Then headed for a massage with Jenny from Balance You who volunteers at the East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Support Centre.
The Macmillan team reminded us that their services don't stop just because the cancer treatment ends (I for one can tell you the impact lasts an awful lot longer after that!) I felt bad and didn't like the idea of taking a place that could have gone to someone else but they convinced me as today's massage came up as a cancellation place. I'm so glad I went along as we laughed, I cried and we pretty much put the world to rights. ...who knew a massage from someone so understanding could make such an amazing difference to how you and your body are feeling!
Between us we've got this.
