Petplan Equine Area Festivals are the perfect target for many BD riders looking to have a taste of the big time at a Championship–feel event. The series, which was launched in 2000 and is aimed at grassroots riders, has grown from 15 Area Festivals around the country with 555 tests completed in its’ first year to over 6,300 dressage tests ridden in the 2018/19 series. Split into two seasons, summe

r and winter, the Petplan Equine Area Festivals offer a year round competition pathway with riders qualifying and competing in the Area Festivals, before going on to the Area Festival Championships taking place in April and October each year.

It was amazing to read all of your incredible stories and your dressage journeys long and short which led to the 2026 Winter Championships! Our Horse of the Month winner stood out to us, as a special horse who has only recently turned his hoof to dressage and won on debut, read Hannah Comery's nomination of Pash below to see why he is our winner! 🥰😍

"It was both our first times at the Championships after only joining BD in December 2025. Having owned and evented Pash for the last 11 years, we had decided as he was getting older (19) we would turn our hoof to dressage. We gained our 4 scores to qualify for the Area festival at our first 2 BD competitions. We then went on to Win🥇at the Area festival we attended at Bishop burton ( this was only our 5th BD competition together). Pash was amazing, leading from the start to finish (We went down the centre line at 9am and the class finished at nearly 6pm), also the highest placed Senior horse award, and the highest placed Under 25 rider. After only being a member of BD since December, we have already had a great start and can’t wait to see what the summer season brings. 🤎🦄"
