Riding Simulator by Lucy McWilliam

Riding Simulator by Lucy McWilliam Riding Simulator Lessons I've always found it challenging to describe myself, but I've come to realise that it's whats make me good at what i do.

My passion for teaching is driven by moments with horses that resonate with me. There are times when we both struggle to understand each other, and moments when we move as one, creating an incredible bond. My journey with horses began as a working pupil in London's East End. L had various instructors, but one stood out. She believed in me, placing me on a skilled dressage horse, despite doubts fro

m others. She whispered 'Listen and he will teach you' and he did. I aspired to be an instructor who understood that riding is more than just commands; it's about the relationship between horse and rider. My path with Simulators started when i was asked to teach on one. I learned from scratch, realising that the simulators could unlock a deeper understanding of riding. I transitioned from instructor to coach, creating an environment where riders and horses, be they plastic or real can be present in the moment. My goal is for everyone to leave with the confidence and tools for their own unique equine journey. Even tiny improvements can make a huge difference to horse and rider.

Tomorrow is my birthday which means I have been working with horses for 29 years.
Looking back it’s been quite the journey and I would have loved to be able to tell the younger me so many things……

The risk you took leaving school at 16 to work with horses when you didn’t have a clue what that really meant was a brave and bold decision even if you only did it to avoid A levels.

The BHS examiner who said she would have failed you but the other 2 said you passed. She wasn’t being nice or constructive and you would go on to pass every exam, module and assessment you have taken since.

The pony that put you on the floor every time you rode him. He was teaching you a lesson in listening when you got it right he would fly.

The time you were left in charge of an entire yard of horses on New Year’s Eve and it snowed freezing all the pipes. The horses escaped and the power went will be one of your funniest memories.

Being diagnosed with dyslexia didn’t mean much back then but has given you the skills you needed to see things through different eyes.

The instructor that told you she’d be surprised if you made it because you were too soft. She didn’t realise that was a compliment.

Your whole career will be shaped by a Robot horse. This will allow you to achieve things you never could have imagined. Making small differences to people along the way. A privilege you could never of imagined.

You will meet the worst of the worst in the horse world but also some of the kindest people too.

You aren’t right for every rider AND every rider isn’t right for you. Thats OK.

You have chosen a career that will never get boring it’s constantly evolving.

The horses all of them will teach you so much. Be kind, be brave, be open to adapting.

You will never regret buying the pony with the terrible feet, who wouldn’t be touched the one that taught you more than any human ever could. The one that taught you doing it differently is ok.

There is a huge focus on the correct position and rightly so.
It’s crucial that we understand the impact we can have on the horse.
However sometimes life comes along and everything we once knew feels so different. Something we did without effort becomes so much harder.
Having a chance to process this to realise you can still do it whilst knowing you are safe that is magical. The goal to start with just see if you still can.
A real privilege to work with this rider a true horsewoman who only wants the best for her horse.

“Due to a neurological problem I had not ridden for a year and was concerned about
being able to manage to ride again.

Lucy came highly recommended - we talked through my concerns and used the
simulator to identify tension areas allowing me to relax and concentrate on getting my
riding muscles working agian.

By the third session I was cantering and felt at home again on a horse - thank you Lucy”
