Our Senior Elites have been working SO hard on this one!

Inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale, this troupe is something a little different for our Seniors — giving them the chance to really focus on storytelling, character and performing as one team.

We absolutely love seeing them take on choreography that challenges them and shows a completely different side to what they can do.

This piece will be making its stage debut at ENCORE this weekend, before heading onto the competition floor with our Senior Elites later this season!

Things we’ll never apologise for at AHDC… 🤍

Being a little bit too loud when someone finally gets the move they’ve been working on.

Celebrating the tiny wins just as much as the massive ones.

Knowing our dancers as people, not just as names on a register.

Giving extra reassurance when someone needs it.

Having multiple teachers in classes so nobody gets lost in the room.

Making a HUGE fuss when confidence starts to grow.

Letting children progress at their own pace instead of comparing them to everyone else.

Creating a space where different personalities, abilities and needs are welcomed.

And probably getting far too emotionally invested in every single one of them. 😂

Because AHDC was never supposed to be somewhere children just come to learn a dance.

We want it to be somewhere they feel like they belong. 🤍

If we could tell every new dance parent one thing… don’t panic if they don’t join in straight away 🤍

Some kids run straight through the door and don’t look back, others need a little bit more time… and both are completely normal!

They might spend their first lesson watching, they might need one of us next to them, they might join in for 10 minutes and decide that’s enough for today 😂 We genuinely don’t mind.

We’d much rather let them settle in at their own pace than make dance feel like something they have to do.

Then one day you realise the little one who wouldn’t leave your side is running into class without even saying goodbye 🥹

It’s all part of it, and we’ll be there for all the little wins along the way 🤍

ENCORE dress rehearsal DONE! 🥹

Seeing everyone finally in costume and watching the whole show come together from start to finish has made it all feel VERY real.

We are so incredibly proud of every single dancer. One more week, a few final tweaks… and then it’s time to take ENCORE to the stage. 👀

Next stop… MELTON THEATRE! 🖤✨

Dance teaches so much more than steps!!💙

They learn confidence.
They learn resilience.
They learn how to work as part of a team.
They learn that getting something wrong is part of getting better.
They learn discipline, independence and determination.
They learn to support the people around them and celebrate other people’s successes too.

And somewhere between learning routines, performing, laughing with their friends and trying again when something feels impossible… they grow.

That’s one of our favourite things about teaching. Watching them become more confident in who they are, not just in how they dance.
