🐣 Melbourn Squash Club will only be open for casual bookings over the Easter weekend on Easter Saturday from 08:00-13:00, in line with Melbourn Sports Centre's Opening times.

Melbourn Squash Club subscribed members (Full, Off-Peak, etc.) can play at any time over the Easter weekend, but you will need the out-of-hours access codes to get on to the Melbourn Village College site and into the Squash Courts building (and your keyfob!). If you are not sure what these are, please contact a Committee member for details.

Go with nature and spring into action by heading over to Melbourn Squash Club tomorrow for our women and girls’, fun-fit squash session starting at 6pm…💪🏻🌱❤️

When: Monday 16th Feb
Time: 6pm - 7.15pm
Where: Melbourn Squash club at Melbourn Village College
Cost: £2, (free for juniors)

This is a great way to try something new or come back to something old. Just bring yourself and some non-marking trainers, and we’ll handle the rest!

Melbourn Squash Club 1st team was on fighting form on Wednesday evening and came out with a superb victory against Cambs Uni 1sts! 👏💪🏻

Mike and Vinod found their opposition a bit too strong on the night, although Vinod took it to the brink with a narrow 3-2 loss.

Fortunately, Miles, Matt S and Chris put in star performances to win their matches convincingly. Check out the video to see how to finish a rally in style by Chris, with a flat-as-a-pancake roller!!

Melbourn Squash Club has had an action-packed week with some great results! On Monday our 2nd team travelled to City of Peterborough Squash and Racketball Club and got straight to it out of a long car journey, clocking up two, 3-0 wins at 5 and 4 strings by Gareth and Moises.

Moises usually likes to get as much running into an evening as possible and even at a 3-0 scoreline, he still managed to max out in the second game winning it narrowly and at length, 20-18! 🏃‍♂️😅

Matt W and Richard both had great battles. Richard lost 3-1, and had gameball in the third and just lost the 4th 15-13…so close to the scoreline telling a different tale! Matt W had an epic fight taking the match all the way to a fifth and final game which he lost 15-13 from a position of 13-11 up! So close to victory, but it wasn’t to be on the night…

Last on was Melbourn club guru, Jan Brynjolffssen. What he doesn’t know about the club isn’t worth knowing…and the same was true of his squash on the night! He glided to victory, with team mates reporting that even he was in shock at how well it had gone. A flawless performance with fantastic accuracy, Jan’s 3-0 win secured an overall 3-2 team victory for Melbourn! 🌟👏🏆

Melbourn Squash Club 1sts were nearly back to full strength this week with Chris and Matt S back at the top of the order and other team regulars, Mike, Miles and Mark in at 3-5 strings.

This week’s opponents were the Bedford-based Towers Club team. They are strong throughout the order and Mark, Miles and Mike were unable to get a win between them, though Mark and Miles both picked up a valuable point each to go towards the overall tally.

Conversely, Matt S had a smooth run in his match and sailed through 3-0. Chris at 1 string had a real challenge on his hands against a very experienced masters player who is ranked about 1000 points higher than him on Squash Levels. It was to be the Melbourn coach’s night though! Chris played some superb, patient and clever squash to take an excellent 3-1 win - the standout match of the evening. Congratulations Chris!! 💪🏻🎉🌟

Despite the 3-2 team loss, it was a great night of squash and hospitality - thanks go to Towers Health & Racquets Club for hosting!

A quick update on last week’s goings on Melbourn Squash Club…

There was just one team match played last week which was the 1sts away match to Stamford…in Lincs! With 3 of the usual suspects at the top end of the team (Chris, Matt S and Mike) unavailable, it was down to Vinod to play at 1st string, Miles and Mark to move up the order and 2nd team regulars, Jan and Will to step up, marking Will’s debut for the 1sts.

Even without the long car journey to get there, it was always going to be a tough gig for Melbourn. Getting a team out for the night had already been a battle so any points gained thereafter were a bonus! The top three strings weren’t able to make any inroads into their opponents’ game, but both Jan and Will came away with a point each, losing their matches 3-1, with Will very nearly taking the third game in a close 14-12 loss. Can’t win ‘em all…!!

Two other Melbourn team regulars, Moises and Richard, were keen for more squash last week and played in the Graded Squash tournament at Comberton Squash Club. Congratulations go to both of them - Moises for coming runner up in the C grade and Richard for getting place 3rd in the B grade! 👏💫🎉

Melbourn Squash Club had two very closely fought league matches last week. The 1sts played away on Wednesday at Swavesey. It was a tight contest with Mark and Vinod losing their matches, but Matt S and Miles evened out the score line leaving it all down to Mike! He didn’t falter and took the deciding match 3-0, so an overall 3-2 win for Melbourn. 💫💪🏻

The 2nds travelled away the next day to the courts at Kings College School Cambridge where they took on Cambridge 4th team. Already one match down due to illness in the Melbourn ranks, it was all to do. Kate was first on court and her first game was closely contested - but it was downhill from there with a 3-0 loss. This left no room for further error if Melbourn were to win! And again, the team did not disappoint…Will, Colm and Matt W were all on fighting form and secured 3 wins…another true team effort!! 👏✨

Congratulations to Will from Melbourn Squash Club and all the other lads who played for the Hertfordshire U17 squash team on Sunday at Ipswich Sports Club, competing against Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. It was a fantastic team effort with some great squash and they came away with a well-deserved second place after only losing to a super-strong Norfolk squad. 💪🏻💫
