Rather than a 'tick list', meditation is about being present and aware. It's a practice that cultivates a state of mind. By practising non judgemental observation, meditation encourages observation of your thoughts and feelings. With regular practice you can learn to shift from chaos to calm.
I felt calm meditating outside under the tree at Rozelle, even though I had one peak through my sunglasses to observe my environment. Whereas when I was at home, I fidgeted, pandiculated, scratched, sneezed, coughed, got lost in thought, and checked the time. I was 8+ minutes into my meditation before I settled. I continued to sit. I needed the practice.
