🏏 THE HUDSON CUP – THANK YOU 🏏

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported The Hudson Cup today, held in memory of Keith “Rocky” Hudson. ❤️

Thank you to all the players from Mattishall CC and Eaton cricket club , Logan who captained from the sidelines everyone who came along to watch and support, and Mattishall Sports & Social Club A special thank you to Mandy for keeping everyone refreshed behind the bar, and to Louise for selling raffle tickets Louise, Matty and Hodgy for all their help running the BBQ after the game. 🍔🍻

Thank you also to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes and everyone who bought tickets and supported the day.

Keith was a very important part of Mattishall Cricket Club for many, many years, and it was fantastic to see so many people come together in his memory. Days like today show what our cricket club is all about – friendship, community and remembering those who have played such an important part in our club it was lovely to have Wendy and Steve come along today and thank you to Wendy for presenting the cup.

🌱 Brown doesn’t necessarily mean dead!

With the prolonged dry weather we’ve experienced, many lawns are turning brown and going dormant. This is the grass’s natural way of protecting itself when water is limited.

The green lawn pictured has been regularly watered, which shows just how important moisture is during these conditions. Without watering - particularly during a hosepipe ban - even a well-maintained lawn can lose its colour and go dormant.

The important thing is what happens next. Good lawn care, the right treatments and correct recovery plan can help ensure your lawn is in the best possible position to bounce back once rainfall returns. 🌧️🌱

Match Report – Mellis CC 1st XI vs Mattishall CC 2nd XI

Mattishall CC 2nd XI produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure a superb 27-run victory over Mellis CC 1st XI after posting an imposing 325-3 from their 45 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Mattishall made an excellent start despite the early loss of Craig Wylie for 10. Captain Cameron Brown then led from the front with a superb 102 from 101 balls, striking 15 fours and 2 sixes to lay the foundations for a huge total.

Brown shared a magnificent 161-run partnership with James McNeilly, who played a superb innings of 128 from just 101 deliveries, including 18 fours and a six. McNeilly batted with authority throughout, before accelerating in the closing overs.

After Brown’s dismissal, Nathan Gostling provided the perfect finishing touch, blasting an unbeaten 57 from only 43 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Alongside McNeilly, the pair added an unbroken 133 runs to take Mattishall to an impressive 325-3, with 27 extras also contributing to the total.

Facing a daunting chase, Mellis responded well and were always in the contest. Opener M Nicholls made 55, while S Williamson added 50 and P Tomson chipped in with 44. Late-order hitting from C Le Versha (42) and M Prior (39) threatened to keep the home side in the hunt.

However, Mattishall continued to take wickets at crucial moments. Regan Gostling was the standout bowler, producing an excellent spell of 4-44 from seven overs, removing Williamson, Holmes, Le Versha and Soper to halt Mellis’ momentum. Chris Baines was equally impressive with figures of 2-32 from nine overs, while wickets also went to Craig Wylie, Cameron Brown and Matty Gostling.

Despite Mellis battling all the way to the final over, Mattishall held their nerve to restrict the hosts to 298-9, sealing a deserved 27-run victory.

It was a complete team performance from Mattishall, highlighted by centuries from Cameron Brown and James McNeilly, an explosive unbeaten half-century from Nathan Gostling, and a disciplined bowling display led by Regan Gostling, as the 2nd XI claimed another excellent victory.
