After being asked to bat first, Mattishall recovered from a difficult start to post a commanding 241-9 from their 45 overs.

Further valuable runs came from Mark Stokes (29) and Cameron Brown (25), while late contributions from Amit Tripathi (7), Richard Halfacree (5) and Jason Knight (6)* ensured the visitors finished strongly.

Defending 241, Mattishall’s bowlers kept things tight despite a fine century from Diss opener Jordon Warren, who struck 110. However, wickets fell regularly around him as Mattishall maintained control of the chase.

Captain Richard Halfacree led from the front with excellent figures of 2-16 from 7 overs, while Mark Stokes also claimed 2-34. Cameron Brown (1-24) and Amit Tripathi (1-36) chipped in with wickets, and there was sharp work in the field throughout.

Notable fielding contributions included a catch by James McNeilly, a catch from Toby Nickerson, a run out involving Cameron Brown, and a smart caught-and-bowled by Mark Stokes.

Despite Diss reaching 195-7 from their 45 overs, Mattishall’s total proved beyond them as the visitors secured a deserved 46-run victory and collected 25 valuable league points.

A fantastic team performance from Mattishall, highlighted by Nathan Gostling’s outstanding century and a disciplined bowling display to see the game out.

🏏 Result: Mattishall CC 2nd XI 241-9 beat Diss CC 2nd XI 195-7 by 46 runs.

🏏 Match Report – Great Witchingham CC 2nd XI vs Mattishall CC 1st XI 🏏

Mattishall CC 1st XI suffered a narrow 13-run defeat away to Great Witchingham CC 2nd XI in an entertaining contest that went right down to the final overs.

After winning the toss, Mattishall captain Sonny Richmond elected to field first. The bowlers made a strong start, with Ryan Hawkins (2-23) and Jason Cole (2-28) sharing the wickets. Ryan removed both Tom Wicks and Matthew Hale, while Jason accounted for Jonathan Spelman and James Spelman. Tight bowling from Sonny Richmond (4-0-15-0) helped keep the scoring in check, but Great Witchingham were able to build partnerships through Ajay Jadhav (32*) and Matthew Hale (30), finishing on 128-4 from their 20 overs.

Chasing 129 for victory, Mattishall started positively with Connor Green leading the way with an excellent 34 from 32 balls, including four boundaries. However, wickets fell at regular intervals, making it difficult to build the momentum required.

Useful contributions came from Chris Gale (19), Jason Cole (18) and Thomas Hill (15),* who battled hard until the end. Despite the efforts of the middle and lower order, Mattishall finished on 115-8 from their 20 overs, falling just short of the target.

Great Witchingham’s bowling attack was led by James Spelman, who produced an outstanding spell of 3-14 from 4 overs, while Kyle Williamson chipped in with 2-21.

Although the result didn’t go Mattishall’s way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly with the ball where the side restricted the hosts to a competitive but chaseable total. The team will look to bounce back strongly in the next fixture.
