Derbyshire County Champ Information 🏹

I know you've all been thinking "what's happening with county outdoor champs?"

Well have I got news for you!!

A big big thank you goes to Derwent Bowmen Archery Club for hosting this year, however due to the size of the field we've made the decision to have this as just the SENIOR & open champs.

Juniors - don't fret, any of you that compete in the Sydney Bond on the 19th September will be in the running to become county champion for their age group & bow style!!! This is open to all junior archers to attend not just those selected to compete for the county - for more information on this, contact the Junior Selection Officer.

Now, to the matter at hand, please see the link below for the prospectus, RECORD STATUS HAS BEEN APPLIED FOR.

Entries open on Monday 22nd of June, with Derbyshire Affiliated archers having entry priority until Friday 31st of July 2026. After this point, entries are open. Archers from outside of county are welcome to enter the event before this point, however please note that you will be added to the waitlist until July 31st at which point, available will be filled off this waitlist in entry order.

Yesterday saw a number of our members enjoying a sunny club shoot!

This months club shoot was a Warwick!

A Warwick is 2 dozen arrows at 60 yards then 2 dozen arrow at 50 yards.

Great scores achieved by everyone.

Mick Mellor

It makes me very sad to share the news that Mick Mellor has passed away.

Mick was a long-standing member of Derwent Bowmen, having joined the Club in the late 1980s. Over the years he gave us so much of his time and energy, not just as an accomplished longbow archer but also as a tireless and skilled volunteer. He installed all the plumbing in the clubhouse, and was a willing helper in many more projects including the garage and the back-stop fencing on the outdoor range.

Mick was made a Friend of Derwent Bowmen for his long service and dedication to the Club.

As an enthusiastic member of our longbow community, Mick will be sorely missed, and will be remembered with affection by all of us.

Last weekend was the EMAS Intercounties Clout tournament, hosted by Waterwheel Field Archers.

Below is the Derwent section of the Derbyshire County Archery Association clout team. As you can tell from the photograph, it was a tad misty and visibility was challenging enough that the shoot was delayed by a few hours. It eventually cleared up though and ended up being a lovely day!

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thanks to The Clout Collective for hosting practice sessions before the shoot.
