Match Report – Gladiators U12

2026/27 Season | NDYFL 1st Division

Glapwell 3–0 Gladiators U12

A positive performance despite the result!

# # # OUR BEST FOOTBALL YET

The Gladiators travelled to Glapwell today and produced by far the best football we’ve played all year. From the first whistle, the lads showed exactly what this team is about — confidence, quality and a real togetherness. We dominated the game with 85% possession, playing some outstanding 3-touch football, passing and moving, and creating chance after chance. It was a proper footballing performance and exactly the style we want to see.

# # # IN CONTROL FROM START TO FINISH

For large parts of the game we were in complete control. The lads played some brilliant football, keeping the ball on the floor, moving it quickly and constantly attacking. Our shape was excellent, the movement off the ball was superb and we created numerous opportunities through patience and good decision making. It was the best we’ve played all year and a real statement of how far this team has come.

# # # THREE MOMENTS THAT COST US

Despite our dominance and only conceding 3 shots in total, we were punished for three individual errors and brief lapses in concentration, and Glapwell took all three chances clinically to score 3 goals.

That was the difference today — three mistakes, three goals. Noah in goal wasn’t really challenged in the second half apart from one shot, which they scored. It shows how little they created and how well we controlled the game.

# # # INDIVIDUAL STAND OUT PERFORMANCES

We thought there were some real individual stand out performances today and every single player performed outstandingly. The boys showed maturity, bravery, work rate and a fantastic team spirit from start to finish.

# # # OPPOSITION CHOSE THE MOTM

Because of the number of outstanding performances, we simply couldn’t choose a Man of the Match ourselves today. Instead, we asked Glapwell to choose, and they awarded it to Aedan for his all-round performance, work rate and quality on the ball.

# # # GOALS

No goals this week.

# # # PLAYER OF THE MATCH – AEDAN

⚽ MATLOCK CAVENDISH COMMUNITY FC U11s vs WORKSOP BOYS & GIRLS CLUB ⚽

🌧️ A wet and windy morning, but another fantastic performance from the Matlock boys! 🔵

A very wet, rainy and windy Saturday morning at Brookfield School saw Matlock Cavendish Community FC Under 11s take on a new opponent in Worksop Boys & Girls Club, a team we had never faced before.

From the first whistle, we knew this was going to be a tricky and challenging encounter. Worksop came out pressing hard, tackling well and competing for every single ball. They certainly weren’t going to make life easy for the Matlock boys!

However, as the first half progressed, the boys began to find their rhythm, and some excellent football started to emerge.

Monty was outstanding in the middle of the park, showing great movement, vision and confidence when running with the ball. He was always looking to make things happen and drive the team forward.

Alongside him, Arthur was absolutely brilliant. He dictated play in midfield, communicated well and showed great leadership. It was fantastic to see him being so vocal and demanding the ball. His hard work was rewarded with a well-deserved goal to open the scoring for Matlock!

Out wide, Tommy and Carter once again caused problems for the opposition with their pace, power and determination. Both boys made some fantastic runs, got into dangerous positions and produced some excellent efforts on goal. They were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, but their willingness to keep attacking and push the team forward was brilliant to see.

Joe led the line brilliantly as a lone striker. He worked tirelessly, battled for possession and never stopped looking for opportunities to get himself and his teammates into dangerous positions. His hard work was rewarded with a well-deserved goal in the first half. A fantastic performance from Joe!

Antonio did a great job filling in on the wings, constantly looking to get the ball forward and support the attack. He also showed great awareness by dropping back to help out defensively when needed. His efforts were rewarded just before the break when he grabbed a goal of his own!

At the back, Flynn was an absolute rock. He commanded the defence, read the game brilliantly and was always there to break up Worksop’s attacks. Another strong and dependable performance from Flynn, who continues to be such an important part of this team.

As the first half drew to a close, Antonio’s goal made it 3-0 to Matlock, giving the boys a fantastic platform heading into the break.

🔵 SECOND HALF – TEAMWORK, DETERMINATION AND A LATE GOAL! 🔵

The boys came back out for the second half ready to keep going, despite the difficult weather conditions.

Harry was brilliant once again, showcasing his fantastic footwork, vision, passing and movement. He played in several positions throughout the game, including striker, midfield and defence, adapting effortlessly wherever the team needed him. His work rate and versatility were outstanding, and he really did put in an all-round performance to be proud of.

In goal, Ollie was absolutely superb!

Facing a determined Worksop attack, Ollie produced some brilliant saves and outstanding shot-stopping when called upon. His confidence is growing week by week, and it is becoming increasingly clear just how important he is to this team.

His ability to make saves, play confidently with his feet, make good decisions and support the team is fantastic to watch. Without Ollie’s contribution, the scoreline could easily have looked very different. An outstanding performance between the sticks!

Worksop continued to battle hard in the second half and managed to grab a goal of their own, making it 3-1. Credit to them for continuing to compete and put the Matlock defence under pressure.

As the game continued, there was more great football from Monty, Arthur, Carter, Joe and Tommy, all working hard to move the ball forward and create opportunities.

Flynn continued to be a defensive rock, showing the same commitment and determination we have come to expect from him.

Then, with virtually the last kick of the game, Tommy made a fantastic run forward. The ball fell perfectly into Harry’s path, and he managed to squeeze it past the goalkeeper to round off the scoring in style!

FULL-TIME: MATLOCK CAVENDISH COMMUNITY FC U11s 4-1 WORKSOP BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

A fantastic result against a competitive Worksop side who made the boys work hard for every opportunity. The team showed great determination, resilience and togetherness, particularly in the challenging weather conditions.

Well done to every single one of the boys! 🔵👏

🏆 MAN OF THE MATCH – OLLIE 🏆

What can we say about Ollie today? Absolutely outstanding!

His shot-stopping was superb, but his performance was about so much more than just making saves. His footwork was excellent, his decision-making was strong, and his confidence continues to grow with every game.

Ollie is becoming an increasingly vital part of this team, and it is fantastic to see his development week after week. He gives the boys confidence from the back and consistently shows how important a reliable goalkeeper is to a team.

An absolute diamond for this team, and we’re incredibly lucky to have him!

Congratulations, Ollie! A thoroughly deserved Man of the Match! 🧤👏

⭐ OPPOSITION’S PLAYER OF THE MATCH – HARRY ⭐

A fantastic recognition for Harry, who was awarded the Opposition’s Player of the Match by the Worksop coaches.

Their feedback summed him up perfectly. They highlighted the big lad up front with the fancy footwork, praising his excellent technique, vision, passing and all-round play.

Harry’s ability to adapt to different positions, link up with his teammates and make things happen on the pitch is a real asset to this team.

It’s always great when opposition coaches recognise the talent, effort and attitude of our players, and this award is thoroughly deserved.

Well done, Harry! A fantastic performance and a credit to the team! 👏🔵

👏 THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR 👏

MCCFC U8 Galacticos vs Chesterfield Junior Blues Lions

A brave performance in blustery conditions
After Storm Austen sweept through Clowne, the calm weather before Storm Boleo saw Galacticos faced a strong CJB Lions side with a reduced half-term squad. Evan, Jaxson, T, Archie and James started brightly, showing determination from the first whistle.
CJB opened the scoring, but the Galacticos refused to let their heads drop. James and Jaxson produced some strong early tackles, Evan made several good saves in goal, and Archie worked tirelessly across the pitch.

T powered forward to score the Galacticos’ opener before James was rewarded for his hard work and pressure with a lovely finish. Just before half-time, T broke away and added his second with a thunderous strike.

Max and Kameron also stepped up to help in goal as CJB continued to apply pressure. After the break, Evan brought his trademark energy outfield, while Archie and Jaxson kept looking for forward passes.

T struck the post twice before Jaxson collected Max’s goal kick and played a superb low pass for T to complete both his own and the team’s first hat-trick.

Although the result went against them, this was another encouraging display. The Galacticos scored more goals than in any previous game and showed real progress with their quick forward play, teamwork and reduced reliance on individual dribbling.

🏅 Hills Detailing & Valeting Services Player of the Week: T
His powerful running, movement and finishing continue to improve every week. Well done to our hat-trick hero—and well played, Galacticos!

A welcome lull between Storms Austen and Boelo provided surprisingly good conditions for the U14s to host Maltby Main Blacks at the Cavendish.

Maltby, comfortable league winners last season, arrived as favourites for the top-division title. Matlock, though, started brightly and competed strongly across the pitch. The visitors appeared surprised by their intensity and quickly found themselves in a real contest.

Beau and Adam set the tone in central defence, meeting the danger decisively, while Ewan kept Maltby’s right winger closely contained. Beck pressed forward down the right and looked to bring Max into attacking positions. Up front, James led the line with pace and strength, keeping the Maltby defence on its toes.

Matlock restricted Maltby to very few chances, and when the visitors did get a shot away, Fin was equal to it in goal. Despite a spell of good Matlock pressure, with Lawrence and Harry working hard to create openings, Maltby took the lead after 20 minutes. A well-weighted through ball down the inside-right channel released their pacey winger, who finished confidently with a powerful shot.

Matlock were undeterred and continued in the same vein. Dexter and Albert won important balls in midfield and denied Maltby time in possession. Adam moved to right-back to counter the visitors’ pace on the wing, while Hugo stepped into the back line and was immediately involved in keeping the Maltby attack under control.

Maltby then forced a couple of corners and doubled their lead from one of them after 28 minutes, the ball deflecting off a Matlock head and into the net. It was a cruel moment for Matlock, who had not deserved to be two goals behind.

Maltby carried their two-goal advantage into the break, but the message from Matlock’s management team was simply to keep doing the same—and the players responded. Individual battles continued across the pitch, with Matlock standing firm despite some questionable challenges from the opposition. Dexter appeared to relish the contest, while Beau, as ever, never hesitated when the ball was there to be won, whether in the air or on the ground.

Jack and Woody gave Matlock different options in attack, although clear-cut chances remained difficult to create. Josh was a constant thorn in Maltby’s side on the right. At the other end, Fin continued his excellent performance in goal, repeatedly getting a hand to the ball in crowded penalty-area situations despite his size.

Matlock looked set to keep a clean sheet in the second half, but with only a couple of minutes remaining, a late strike into the bottom-right corner gave Maltby a 3–0 lead.

On the balance of play and the chances created, Maltby probably deserved the win, but the 3–0 scoreline was harsh on a Matlock side that delivered a valiant performance.

Player of the Match was Beau, whose insatiable appetite to win the ball continues to set the standard for the rest of the team.

MCCFC Trojans vs Wingerworth wolves

What a game of football that was today wow.
Cold wet and windy enough to test the hardest of veterans.
Didnt seem to bother either side thou.
From the minute the wistle blew it was competative, the battling was brilliant the football at times was sublime and every single one of them, from the front to the back stepped up to the plate.
Liams instructions were simple, dont watch the ball, dont be invisible get the ball down and play football.
And for the entirety of the match that's how I thought it played out.
Balls through channels, some proper decent link up play and the decision making were brilliant to say the least.
Commitment wise you couldn't ask for more.
Body's on the line was at the top of the menu today, watching cal take a throw in into their box, and then to run the full length to get back to stop a counter attack was inspiring.
Great first touches all over the pitch today👌 neymar picked a few out the air that took my breath away.
We got our heads on the ball, tough in the tackles some fantastic saves, this game had the LOT.
A few decisions didnt go our way today and that's fine,we didnt let it bother us and carried on with buisness.
as long as we are more decisive and clinical that can be overcome.
I think with the chances we created and a fair few 1v1s with the keeper that today could of been a win, I think a draw would of been fair result.

What a first goal for alonso ⚽ on his league debut 💪well done young man and welcome on board.
That second goal was a thing of beauty.
Pure football brilliance, build up,passing and the finish from Toby was amazeballs.
I think liam will agree.

MOTM 🏆
Tough one this because EVERYONE was fantastic today I thought 💪⚽

Neymar
Awesome masterclass in control and keeping it simple.

MCCFC Trojans vs Clowne Comets

Proudly Sponsored by A&S Roofing Services

A chaotic and entertaining game saw us involved in a real end-to-end contest at Clowne. There was plenty of attacking football, lots of chances and some excellent goals, making it a great game for everyone watching.

The game gave us a good learning opportunity. At times, we played a little too quickly and looked for longer passes or shots from distance, which made the game very open. When we stayed calm, kept the ball and trusted our passing, we looked much more dangerous and created our best chances.

George's goal was a great example of that. We moved the ball quickly into a wide area, Charlie K delivered an excellent square pass across the box, and George arrived in space to finish neatly with his left foot. It was a fantastic team goal and showed what we can do when we move the ball and make good decisions in possession.

The boys showed character throughout the game. It was a really open and chaotic match at times, but we never gave up and kept working hard for each other. Even when things weren't going our way, we stuck together, kept believing and found a way back into the game.

We created plenty of chances and were unlucky not to score more goals, hitting the post on four separate occasions. With a little more composure and better technique in front of goal, we could have added to our tally.

Defensively, there are some good learning points for us as well. When possession changed hands, we sometimes reacted a little slowly and left space for the opposition to attack. Improving our awareness in these moments and recognising potential danger earlier will help us become even stronger as a team.

Overall, there were lots of positives to take from the game. Our resilience, attacking play and determination were excellent, and there were some great examples of teamwork throughout. Alongside those positives, there are some valuable lessons around keeping possession, making good decisions and recognising when to slow the game down. These are all experiences that will help us continue to improve as the season goes on.

Goalscorers

⚽ Charlie L (2)
⚽ Oscar (2)
⚽ George M (1)
⚽ Charlie K (1)

Charlie L was our Player of the Game after giving us a reliable option going forward throughout the match. In a game that was often chaotic, he showed the composure we needed in key moments, taking both of his goals really well and providing a constant threat in attack. His movement, work rate and willingness to keep making things happen made a big difference for us.

George also had an excellent game. He brought lots of energy and determination to the team, showed real quality on the ball and was involved in some of our best football. His well-taken goal was the perfect reward for a strong all-round performance.

Matlock Trojans U8s vs Wingerworth Bears

A wintery Sharley Park greeted the Trojans on Saturday morning as they arrived for their 9:45 kick-off against Wingerworth Bears.

Before the game, the Trojans were encouraged to be proactive and get on the front foot early. They certainly delivered, producing one of, if not their best performances of the season!

It took just 15 seconds for the Trojans to open the scoring. Tommy skipped past two Wingerworth defenders before squaring the ball to Casper, who set up Tayamo to finish from close range.

The following 10 minutes produced some excellent football, with Casper, Tommy, Leo, and Tayamo linking up superbly. Casper added a quick-fire double, both goals assisted by Tommy, before the pair switched roles, with Casper turning provider for Tommy to finish two classy goals of his own.

Then came the goal of the game! All five players combined in a brilliant team move, finished clinically by Tayamo from inside the box. It was a simply outstanding goal and a perfect example of the football the Trojans can play!

Just before the half-time whistle, Seth went marauding down the left wing and smashed home from a tight angle to round off the first-half scoring.

At the back, Leo and Doug were superb once again, frustrating the Wingerworth attacks throughout the morning. Behind them, Isaac was in sensational form, making several excellent saves to his right and coming out confidently to claim a number of corners.

There was no let-up after the break as the Trojans picked up exactly where they had left off.

Leo thundered into an early tackle and released Tommy down the left. There was never any doubt where the ball was heading as Tommy calmly completed his hattrick. He wasn't finished there, though, adding a fourth with an unbelievable solo effort!

Billy then got in on the action, winning the ball on the halfway line before driving forward and unleashing a 20-yard strike that crashed against the right-hand post. It was a fantastic effort and desperately unlucky not to find the net.

Max continued his superb goalscoring form, converting a brilliant pass from Casper and slotting the ball beyond the Wingerworth goalkeeper. He then won possession back in the middle of the pitch, allowing Seth to fire home his second of the game from the edge of the box.

Doug, now operating on the right of midfield, strode forward down the right before applying a neat finish at the near post. Seth then completed his hattrick, reacting quickest to a rebound from close range.

It was time for birthday boy Casper to get his hattrick, too! Max was the provider once again, slipping the ball to Casper, who drilled home a superb 20-yard finish.

Doug then took a quick kick in, raced past the Wingerworth defender, and delivered a pinpoint cross for Max to finish in style. It was another classy goal and a sign of a player in form.

Isaac wasn't finished producing the heroics at the other end, either. Late in the game, he pulled off a simply incredible double save before tipping what looked like an unstoppable effort over the bar. Sensational goalkeeping!

Player of the Week, sponsored by Charles Carnell Building Services was Tommy.

Another excellent performance from Tommy, who finished with four goals, provided 2 assists, showed a brilliant attitude, and delivered a great all-round performance for the team. His contribution epitomised the energy, teamwork and attacking intent shown by the Trojans throughout the game.

Well done to Tommy and all nine Trojans, what a performance!
