MATCH REPORT: Last night we continue are pre-season friendly fixtures, with a trip to Grangetown Boys Club Reserves. New Marske FC started the game strong and controlled possession in the first 10 – 15 mins, although Grangetown soon settled into a rhythm and started to cause the New Marske team some problems with there free flowing passing. Both teams were well organised, with the back line of New Marske keeping a particularly good shape through organisation of Dan Stonehouse and Joe Fenwick. The game continued through the first half with both teams matching one another’s possession periods, however New Marske did manage to pe*****te the back line of the Grangetown defence on a couple of occasions only to find the excellent Grangetown keeper to be more than a match and made two excellent saves to keep out first Liam Dawes then the tireless Isaac Meehan who was causing all sorts of problems with his energy in the middle of the park. The teams entered the break level, with Grangetown probably edging the game in terms of possession, but New Marske in terms of outright chances. The second half saw Grangetown make a number of changes, with New Marske just making the one, With Jack Charlton entering the field for the impressive Connor on the right hand side. New Marske soon took advantage, with Issac Meehan driving forward once again, and drove a low hard shot to the keepers left. New Marske shortly made further changes, with the impressive Tom Jeffels, Shaun Harrison and Jonny Wardell entering the field as straight swaps to for the lads which had put a great shift in. Grangetown continue to press, however found it difficult to break the impressive lines of New Marske which were showing great organisation. Isaac Meehan continue to be a menace, breaking from the half way line, through the Grangetown defence only to see his shot saved again by the in form Grangetown keeper. The home side failed to make the best of a number of Corners , and New Marske managed again to make a quick counter, with Jack Charlton the half time sub receiving the ball 30 yards out before taking on the Grangetown defence and slotting the ball neatly in the net passed the Grangetown keeper. A late break, saw heart in the mouths moments, as Grangetown managed to break the back line of the New Marske defence with a foul committed by Jonny Wardell 25 yards out. The resulting free kick was shepherded over the bar by the impressive Carl Harris in goal who dealt with everything superbly well over the ninety minutes. The game finished 2-0 to New Marske, a great result against quality opposition, a very enjoyable watch I would like to think for the supporters, our thanks to Grangetown for hosting us, and the referee who was outstanding all game
