MGFC WEEKEND RECAP

Last Saturday was a brilliant day for the club both on and off the pitch.

First up, it was great to see Mike and our U9 Robins take centre stage as we welcomed youth football back to Marsh. A fantastic morning of kids’ football and brilliant to see the next generation of Robins playing down at The Nest.

Then Saturday evening we headed to the Village Hall for our MGFC Race Night. What a night it was! It was great to see so many people from the village come out and support the club, with plenty of laughs along the way and a fantastic amount of money raised for MGFC.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, bought horses, had a bet and supported the evening. Also a huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and run the night, along with all of our race sponsors and main sponsor CT Walters Electrical. We really appreciate the support.

Days like Saturday are exactly what a village football club is all about. Kids playing football in the morning and the village coming together to support the club in the evening.

A very good day for MGFC.

🔴⚪️Little Robins Finish Preseason Strong 🔴⚪️

Our u9 Robins finished preseason with a brilliant 5 aside memorial tournament over at Garden City last Saturday.

The boys were amazing playing 7 league games coming away from that top of the table with 1 loss and 6 victories.
The semi final was a very closely contested event with our Robins coming away with a late goal to see them through to the final.
The final was set up as a rematch against the only team to have beaten the Robins on the day. The game was very close all the way through with both sides having chances. In the end the Robins came away on the back of a one goal defeat, smiles all round for a team that has great things ahead of them.

On to the season, lots to look forward to for this little team.

SILVERSTONE HIT THE BRAKES AS MARSH CRUSE TO THE NEXT ROUND…..

MARSH GIBBON 5–0 SILVERSTONE
Buckingham Charity Cup

A brilliant night back at the Nest on Tuesday evening as the First Team continued their excellent start to the season with a convincing 5–0 win over Silverstone.

Preparations weren’t exactly ideal, with a few matchday dropouts through work, illness and, of course, the standard Nick Maldini Moodie bad back. That meant two late call-ups, so a huge shoutout to Kennie and Borsky, who stepped up at short notice and both played a massive part in the win.

There was also the return of a few regular faces from the opening league game, with Alex Clarke, Lewis Dench, George Carpenter and Dan Chittenden all back involved.

The warm-up had the usual relaxed Marsh feel about it probably a little too relaxed for T. Leno, who was starting to look slightly concerned before kick-off. Luckily, as soon as the whistle went everyone switched on and was at it from the outset.

Marsh came flying out of the blocks and were in complete control against a young Silverstone side. Dan Chittenden opened the scoring before Matt Cruse decided he fancied the match ball, helping himself to a first half hatty by basically bulling their back line and some smart finishing .

Charlie Willis (CW10), after a cracking start to the season in the No.10 role, was asked to sacrifice himself for the team and move out to the left of the front three. Whether the hair gel requirements are different out there remains to be seen.

HT: MGFC 4–0 Silverstone

Half time also saw Maldini Moodie, despite the bad back keeping him out of the action. Still manage to fulfil one of his most important role of chief cheerleader and providing the half time rollups that certain members of the current squad have apparently become reliant on, much to the gaffer’s dismay.

Can’t say we saw any of the Silverstone lads joining them for a half time smoke. Judging by some of them, we’re not convinced they were old enough to drive themselves home.

Back to the football, and the second half started in much the same fashion. Marsh remained on top and Chittenden grabbed his second of the evening after turning on the afterburners and showing everyone that the big chunk can still move when he needs to chasing down a long ball before slotting it past the keeper. That made it 5–0 and put the result beyond any doubt just as well as the light was beginning to fade at the nest.

A clean sheet, five goals and another win. A brilliant contribution from everyone involved, especially those who stepped in late and the excellent start to the season continues.

Fair play to Silverstone who never gave up and will cause trouble in NB with their youthful pace and spirit.

Goals:
Dan Chittenden x2
Matt Cruse x3

FT: MGFC 5–0 SILVERSTONE

2 games. 2 wins. Plenty of goals.

The Robins keep rolling.

Mom- Matt Cruse

Skipper stepped up again and lead the front line superbly putting the game beyond and doubt in the first 30 mins.

DOD- Alex Clarke

Despite him claiming an assist and a solid game at centre back nothing could stop big al from trying a ridiculous backheal which twice failed miserably and returned possession back to the Silverstone front line.

Oscar bones cracker from long range is well worth the watch and Charlie Willis composed finish after a well worked team goal. All from yesterday’s first half vs Woburn in terrible conditions before the game got abandoned at half time.

Goal of the season contender already? 👀👀👀
