🎣 Big weekend at Maverick Tackle β€” new lures, new colours, restocks, and more on the way.

Two new mini profiles are now live in the store:
Mini-Pincher β€” 3.7cm
The Pincher, scaled down. Same claw-flicking craw profile as the 6.4cm version, now in a compact size for those days when perch, chub and bass want something smaller. Fish it on a drop shot, micro jig, Ned head or light Cheb β€” the little nipping action does the rest.
Pack of 8.

StoneFly β€” 3.5cm
The StoneFly, downsized for ultralight and finesse work. Slimmer, lighter and subtle enough for clear water, pressured rivers and picky fish. The legs and tail give just enough movement on the fall without overdoing it. Ideal on micro jigs, drop shot and light finesse rigs.
Pack of 10.

Both are available now.
We’ve also added fresh colours across the Creature and Worms & Bugs ranges, including the new Bloodworm colourway. The updated palette is live in the store.

A lot of restocking has also been done across the range, so if something you were waiting on had sold out, it’s worth checking the store again.

The Tungsten Micro Jig Heads are also back with an improved build β€” hand-tied and resin-finished for a stronger, cleaner hold. If you fish extra-ultralight (XUL), micro jigs or finesse rigs in general, these are well worth a look.

And there’s more coming soon:
Lead jig heads, Ned heads, Cheburashka weights, bullet weights and drop-shot weights are all on the way.

More to come.

The Summer Drop sold out faster than I expected β€” thank you. Genuinely. Every order means a lot for a one-man operation like this. πŸ™πŸ’š

If you missed out on anything, don't worry β€” I'm already restocking. Keep an eye on the site and I'll post here when your favourites are back up.

There's a method behind every colour I make β€” but not always the same method.

Some colours match the hatch. This one's called Ruffe β€” named after Gymnocephalus cernua, a small perch-family fish found in the same slow rivers, canals, and stillwaters as the predators I'm targeting. Olive-gold back, mottled flanks, dense dark speckling, pearl belly. I didn't invent that palette. I just mixed it. 🎨

Other colours are built to provoke β€” high contrast, flash, and movement that triggers a reaction even when there's nothing natural about them.

Both approaches catch fish. Knowing which to reach for is the real skill. 🎣

Ruffe is live now β€” https://mavericktackle.com/shop/

Can you guess the species behind this new colour? πŸ‘€

Speckled back, pale belly, subtle flash… this one came out looking like a proper little predator snack.

Now live in the store across selected Maverick soft plastics β€” but no spoilers yet.
Drop your guess in the comments before checking the shop πŸ‘‡

15 perch. All over 30cm. One session. Every fish on the same lure β€” the 7.8cm WhipTail in Snow Flake β€” during a Perch League round that pushed me up the rankings.
That lure's now part of the Summer Drop. 9 new lures, 4 new colours named after the baitfish your fish actually eat β€” Treacle, Bleak, Minnow, Dace.
All handmade here in the Cotswolds, all field-tested before they went up. Small batches β€” when a run's gone, it's gone.

Have you tried Spymphing?

Tied my first fly two nights ago. A Sexy Walt Worm. It looked easy enough for my first try.
Last night I took it down to the river. Loaded it onto my Purelure Titanium spinning rod and lobbed it out, because why not.
First cast: a tiny minnow.
Then: two trout, both around 3lb.
I'm calling it spymphing. Half spinning, half nymphing, fully ridiculous. πŸ˜‚
Don't tell the purists.

Following-up on my previous post...
Mayfly hatch on the Bristol Avon. Trout locked onto the naturals.
Will they still take a lure? Yes β€” but only if you change the rules.
8 fish: 4 on a sinking minnow, 4 on Maverick Tackle Caddis Larvae & Stone Fly in Treacle, weightless, drifted dead through the same swims the minnow had already burned.
Full technical breakdown on the blog β€” rod, rig, retrieve, and why insect-pattern soft plastics work during a hatch. πŸ”— https://mavericktackle.com/mayfly-hatch-on-will-they-still-take-lures/

Who's getting out fishing today then? 🎣

Where are you heading, and what's the plan β€” species, venue, tactics, or are you just winging it?

My plan today is a very scientific experiment: finding out whether trout will still smash lures even when there’s a hatch going on πŸ˜‰

Brown trout are savage little critics...
They don’t care how pretty a bait looks on Instagram, how clever the colour name is, or how much effort went into pouring it.
If the size, profile, movement, depth, and presentation are wrong, they’ll refuse it.
That’s exactly why I’m spending more time fly fishing for them.
It’s not a break from bait making β€” it’s bait making research. Just with colder fingers and more swearing πŸ˜‚
