The club had another excellent lunch provided by the Bull at Bisham today, for the club's annual New Year Luncheon. Many club members came along despite the cold and damp conditions outside and with the erstwhile Peter Butler as chief host and raffle ticket caller, the lunch was as usual an extrememly successful event. With the club members all contributing mightily in providing over £225 worth of valuable funds for the club.
A great start to another outdoor bowls season in prospect.

As we approach Christmas Day for 2024 there is so much to remember from the year itself. The season kicked off with a huge amount of interest from a new gathering of club members which translated into large numbers of players entering into both county and club competitions. It was a big jump for many new players and proved that the club could really look forward to a bright future with so many good prospects in the group.
The season has also brought about its share of problems and bad news, these events were only what tends to happen in a club like Marlow as it is merely a reflection of how life is. But as we near the end of this year and the start of 2025 we can surely refresh our outlook and look forward with great positivity to an exciting and rewarding year out on the green.
For now we wish all club members, their families and friends a fantastic Xmas and New Year and let us all step up and show everyone just what Marlow Bowls Club is all about.

Another great night down at the Clubhouse for the Marlow Finals Presentation Night, preceeded by food and quiz and usual banter, with the young starlets turning up just in the nick of time to collect their swathe of trophies and prize money !
A lovely evening brilliantly organised by Felicity and Mags and brilliant support from all those behind the bar and in the kitchen.
Also great to see Roy Sandalls down there following his recent illness, he's aiming to get back to the bowls green soon in the New Year and we all wish him the best of luck.

We are now into the season and games are every few minutes it seems !
The green is looking and playing well probably as well as its been for some years which is testament to the greenkeeping team who spend many hours working on it particularly during the dormant winter period. Tonight there are several County pairs matches going at Marlow so if you want to watch any of the games you are welcome to come down, the bar will be open.
If any readers have any need for grass cuttings the club takes off mounds of grass cuttings each week which are currently piled up on a compost heap round the back but that is slowly becoming a very high compost heap ! So if anyone is interested in collecting some good quality grass cuttings for their compost bins or allotments then please let it be known to us ?

It is regretful that the club has to report that long time Marlow club member Alan Pering passed away earlier this month aged 84. Alan had been a member with Marlow for many years becoming Club Captain and Club President . An amiable and chatty character he represented the club at the top level on many occasions and his warm personality will be most sadly missed at the club. Our condolences go to his wife Christine, also a bowler and club member, and his family and friends.

Tomorrow night Friday January 19th the club is holding a bowls meeting at the clubhouse starting at 7 pm, which has been arranged to discuss the competitions coming up this season, how to enter them and a general look ahead at the future of the club. All members are invited and the bar will be open, hope to see you all then.

The close outdoor bowls season is now upon us and the focus for most bowlers is cosying up indoors at either Handy Cross or Desborough, whilst many others prefer the sanctuary of the Marlow clubhouse playing short mat bowls.
There is much work going on at the ground during the winter, as there is extensive works going on around the sides of the rink with new paths being laid and the ditchside sections are also being refreshed. There is continuing work going on to address the issues that we experienced with the green itself and so there is much to look forward to once the new season starts up next April.

A big weekend for Marlow Bowls Club this week when the Club Finals take place starting on Friday at 4 pm with the Ladies Championship Pairs, followed by 5 matches on Saturday the first match kicks off at 9.30am.
The Sunday sees the bulk of the matches and first up is the Men's Championship Singles at 9.30am between Dave White and Paul Simmons with other matches taking place throughout the day finishing around 6.30pm or later before the feasting and merriment commences into the early evening.

Ann White has her work cut out featuring in 7 finals over 3 days, whilst several others are playing 4 to 3 finals each so it will be a demanding weekend. But also it features a new competition for the newkids on the block the Newbees Aussie Pairs, so all in all it should be an exciting weekend of bowling for all concerned. Let's hope the weather does its best to keep us dry and warm.

Just a few days away before the pinnacle of the 2023 season comes to its natural climax the club Finals Weekend.
This takes place over the weekend of September 16th and 17th with play taking place on both days but the main day is Sunday the 17th and there are many wonderful matches to look forward to. Not all the finalists are confirmed yet but you are all invited to come along to watch the fun and there is a Finals Day Supper organised afterwards which requires booking up through the usual club contacts. Of course the bar will be open throughout.
We look forward to seeing everyone there and fingers crossed the weather should be in our favour this year !

Not great weather for bowls lately but with luck in a few days we shall have more benign conditions to play in though we had a match on Wednesday night at Wycombe which you never thought would be played but for the most part the green was bathed in non-stop sunshine apart from the very last end !
