What a way to open our first season in a higher league! The Carlton Mustangs started the match quickly, confidently and with real intent. From the first whistle, we looked sharp, composed and hungry to make an impact, finding the back of the net numerous times and showing exactly what we’re capable of.
Despite the slower start from Rustons, they used their physicality and experience to work their way back into the match. The game became a real battle, with both teams competing hard and the Mustangs having to dig deep as the momentum began to shift.
There were certainly moments that could have gone our way. A Mustangs goal was disallowed, while a penalty was awarded at the other end of the pitch. Unfortunately, the luck just seemed to run out for us towards the end, despite the incredible start and the fantastic football we had played.
While the result wasn’t what we wanted, there is so much to be positive about. The performance, attitude, confidence and quality shown by the team give us plenty to build on. Stepping up into a higher league was always going to be a challenge, but the Mustangs showed that we belong here and can compete.
A huge amount of credit goes to every player who gave everything on the pitch, and to everyone supporting us from the sidelines.
We take the positives, learn from the experience and go again! 💪🐴
