Phil has spurred tennis to flourish at his club simply by creating a friendly, welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.
Phil worked hard to form a coaching team who held shared values on what their coaching programme and venue atmosphere should look and feel like. Philโs organisation and communication skills, as well as his commitment to bonding with the team, has formed a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. Some of the coaches are former club players who Phil mentored throughout their LTA coaching qualifications, and who are now able to give back to their club by coaching themselves.
The relationship between coaches is most apparent with the clubโs programme; 3 courts filled with players of all ages and abilities enjoying themselves and getting the most out of their high-quality sessions with the team. The programme is now faced with the positive predicament of having waiting lists, as the programme and the club overall have such a glowing reputation in the community. Phil has expanded the adult side of the programme to include groups for beginners, rusty rackets, intermediate and advanced players, and the club have seen new players progress into dedicated competitive training sessions.
Phil leads the clubโs 2-hour weekly inclusive coaching sessions for adults with learning disabilities, helped by a group of volunteers, attended by 40 regular players. Phil has a fantastic rapport with each player, understands each of their interests and abilities, and dedicates time to planning tailored coaching to their needs. Philโs enthusiasm and commitment to the sessions is described as second to none, and heโs keen on optimising social media to spread the message and encourage more to join.
With his tennis club at the heart of all he does โ thank you, Phil, for creating an environment where all players feel welcomed, listened to, and excited to return!๐
