HARBOROUGH SOUTH TO LEAVE LITTLE BOWDEN REC

With the new season soon to start, we have bad news and good news.

First, the bad. After many years, we will no longer play our home games at Little Bowden Rec. It’s been tough to make this decision but because of a lack of funding and support, it is simply no longer viable for us to prepare a pitch and carry on the struggle to maintain an increasingly dilapidated pavilion (if we can even give it so grand a name!).

Over the past few years, these tasks have been carried out by a very small handful of club members, most notably David Butlin who has done sterling work on the pitch, and Neil Lovegrove who made a great effort a few years ago to patch up the roof and give the hut a lick of paint. But the effort is now too great, so it’s time to call it a day. All this means that for the first time in decades, there will sadly no longer be a cricket club based at the rec.

And now for the good news! We have reached agreement with Desborough Town Cricket Club to play our home games at their ground. This gives us a decent pitch on which to play and the use of much better facilities than we’ve been able to provide in the past.

We’re looking forward to the season and hope that it brings us as much joy as playing always does (make of that what you will). We look forward to a bright future for Harborough South Cricket Club.

Do you fancy giving Sunday friendly cricket a try?

At Harborough South, we think having a great time is more important than the result. We try to win but never get too down if we don't. We then have a couple of pints to round off the weekend in an enjoyable way.

We play against other local teams every Sunday from the end of April to mid-September.

Cricket is a great way to make new friends while being active. All abilities are welcome. Although we are predominantly a male team, we sometimes have women playing for us, too.

Harborough South Cricket Club are looking for new players. We are a Sunday friendly, social side playing against other local teams. We try to win, but never get too down if we don't. Then have a couple of pints to round off the weekend in an enjoyable way.

At 6pm on Friday 8 July, Harborough South and
Harborough Taverners are playing a T20 game at Little Bowden Rec to raise funds for Florence's treatment. We're hoping to get as many people as possible along to support and donate, so please come down!

Great game at Peterborough Camra, yesterday. Daniel Hall did well in his first stint as captain, Rasma Bilge Sinclair bowled beautifully and took our only two wickets as Camra racked up a huge 270.

With a reduced target of 200 due to the weather, wickets began tumbling at one end as Peter Attenborough glued the innings together at the other. Michael Goode struck a powerful 24 and 14 year-old Jack Gibbs hit a composed 28 in his first match for the club. Star of the batting show, though, Tim Waterfield struck a maiden 50 with some huge hitting. Pete carried his bat for a career best of 22 in just 32 overs.

Unfortunately, we fell short against a great bunch of guys. We'll see them later for revenge at Little Bowden rec.

The 2022 season is nearly here and Harborough South CC is looking for new players.

We're a friendly club, playing social cricket at Little Bowden Rec on Sundays throughout the season. Our skills are limited but our enthusiasm isn't!
