It is important that your instructor (for any form of fitness) is qualified and vetted for the subject they are teaching. It isn't just about having knowledge from doing it, but having the knowledge to teach it safely and accurately.

At NewSkins, this is very important to us. There are lots of Pilates insturctors and studios appearing that do not have official, vetted qualifications, just a 'set amount' of hours learning. This can cause lots of issues for your safely and health.

At NewSkins, we use vetted educational programs and keep uptodate with the CIMPA regulatory board to ensure your safety and trust in myself and anyone who works with me.

It's been a while, but we are back with the next of our values: Being Social. It is important for our overall health to be in a community where you can find encouragement, support and a laugh. That applies to introverts and extroverts. At NewSkins, I try to create a space where you feel accepted and looked out for, either by myself and/or the others attending the sessions.

Your time and money are valuable—how you choose to spend them matters. My pastor gave me three pointers for my time mangement and whether it was time to change jobs, and it really stuck with me:

1. We are on this earth for a limited time (whether you believe in an afterlife or not).
2. We never know when our time might change or finish.
3. So you need to choose what we do with that time wisely. Is the work you are choosing to do worthwhile doing? Is loosing your time to work worth it, so you can afford to do the things you would like to do, or does it hinder what you would like to do?

This point became a backbone to the NewSkins values.

Exercising boosts our energy. It sounds counterproductive, but it is true on a mental and physiological level. To feel more revitalised, refreshed and focused (or to feel like you have energy) you need to get yourself moving.

All of NewSkins session, are designed to leave you feeling energised so you can make the most of your time.
Whether that is refreshing your mind so you can unwind into your day and feel unburdened by mental strain or revitalise yourself so you can combat an upcoming task.

Nourish the body and mind through intentional breathing: place your hands on the sides of your ribs, breathe in through your nose expanding into the back and sides of the ribs. Breathe out through your mouth like you are fogging up glass, while drawing your ribcage back together. Try to a minute at first. Notice the difference in your heart rate, mental business and muscle tension.
Can you go for longer? 🩵

One of the best ways to nourish your mind, body and spirit is through deep and intentional breathing. When we take time to breathe deeply, we initiate our parasympathetic nervous system, lowering our fight and flight system. This reduces our cortisol and blood pressure and therefore stress levels. The deeper the breath the more oxygen we supply to our bodies and the more waste products can be transported away from the muscles leaving them to feel more refreshed. 🩵

‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ – Ezekiel 37:5-6 ✝️

Over the next few Mondays I will be focusing on NewSkins 8 core values as a way for you to better understand my approach.

I know from experience and research that health isn’t spilt into separate entities and cannot be healed separately either. What affects the body affects the mind affects the spirit. Therefore, a holistic approach to health has the potential bring a better sense of wellbeing and nourishment.

With this in mind, all sessions, whether Pilates, barre fitness, private fitness session or mentoring come from a place of working to nourish your mental and physical health together to help develop a body you feel comfortable to live in. Because when you think about it, the only entities that stay with you from birth to death is your mind, your spirit and your body, so you owe it to yourself (and your creator) to look after it.

Starting by finding a form of exercise that you enjoy, because if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t stick to it. Particularly when it starts to get challenging!
