Thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion for what cycling facilities you would like to see in Market Bosworth. I will be discussing each with the appropriate party over the coming weeks months etc. as I try to secure additional time with them.
The meeting yesterday was useful if not a little frustrating as there were missing parties, BUT there was acknowledgment of the need for recreational areas for cycling and that certain things would be perfect and greatly beneficial to the community but they’d be worried about the push back against such things and would need to see the desire from the community.
The most cost effective and least maintenance required addition would be a tarmac pump track which has proved to be extremely popular whenever added to a community from toddlers to grownups. It provides an area to learn the basics of bike handling, jumps and trail skills to enable you to get out and try some far flung trails as a family when confident.
We believe the park is the perfect place for it. They don’t. They believe it’s not what a park is for??? A recreational area but not for recreational activities!
The park has recently included 12 hectares of gazing pastures to be turned into wild flower meadows and other wildlife attracting habitats. If you were to use an acre (less than 3.5%) of this additional park land for some cycle facilities that would still leave over 11.5 hectares so barely making a significant impact on their current 5 year plans.
So as a means to try and negotiate with the parks I ask you to get in touch with me with your name, house number and post code if you would be in favour of such a facility AND just as importantly if you’d be against it and what the objections would be so that we could assess what would need to be done to hopefully bring you onboard or if it would simply be a no go.
Thanks for your time 🙏👌
