Castle colts 2-9 Marden

I don’t know what to say today, I guess seeing the score line you would think I’d be pleased, I’m pleased with the goals and the 3 points, but I wasn’t pleased with the performance.

We went off script and it just turned into an under 7’s match with players trying to dance round opponents to notch.

I will take the positives, but there are tougher games ahead for sure.

Staplehurst 0-8 Marden

Local derby one which hasn’t been played for a few years. Hard one to analyse, staplehurst started the better but Marden dug in and once the tweak in the system was sussed by the side Marden clicked into gear. I think the assessment would be clinical, we created some great moments and took advantage of them. Once we had a comfortable cushion the boys relaxed and some of the football played was some of the best I’ve witnessed. Still areas we can improve on but a well drilled side playing the game the right way is always hard to beat.

What a weekend of football we have in store at collier street. The under 9’s played today, the under 10’s,11’s and 18’s are all at home tomorrow, one of my biggest achievements along with some amazing volunteers is keeping this little club going!

Not bad when you think we had 1 team at one point.

A reminder to all parents,
spectators, neutrals and managers we are strictly NOT allowed dogs at collier street. Also a gentle reminder please take all your rubbish home with you and any property you bring.

I will be reminding my under 9’s of this at our training night Thursday, I inherited a brolly today 🤷🏻‍♂️

As the season’s either start or have started, a little write up on a team that I’m extremely proud of my under 18’s. It’s been a difficult summer with players stopping due to work/college commitments etc, but we have also been busy behind the scenes rebuilding a squad, the players we’ve added wow.

We have played two friendlies against older opposition to give the boys the understanding of the physical aspect of the game. First game was Tuesday night with squad members missing, playing a division 2 county side and whilst it ended in defeat, there was a debut hat trick for the new Marden number 10 Harrison.

Today we travelled to dartford to play a selkent side, so another tough game and these boys are second year 18’s with a number of trialists today the boys ground out a 4-4 draw, with 2 more goals from Harrison and 2 goals from another new recruit Ben. Boys looked very good, with one more midweek friendly to go before the season opener against vinters, I’m hoping the boys gel quickly and we can give good account of ourselves each week.

Sometimes in life your thrown a challenge, our under 11’s certainly were given a challenge and I’m pleased to say we have a squad of boys and girls who week by week are improving together, considering they are a completely new team with none of them have played together before, look at their faces in their new kit, with 3 players missing we will get a new team photo before the season starts. So tonight we concluded the 22/23 season, we used the evening as a team building exercise/ awards celebration evening at gravity, we celebrated with the boys all receiving an award for playing the year, along with top scorer going to joe, most improved Oscar, clubman Charlie, supporters player swanley, managers player Luke and players player reggie. We also welcome three of our four new signings as one was away, Lucas, the new boys in attendance, Els, James and Isaac, welcome boys. Watch out for this group going to be a great season I can feel it. ⚽️⚫️⚪️⚽️
