An amazing charity; doing amazing work

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

The club was approached by the warden of Spion Kop Lakes asking for assistance. Some expensive fishing rods had been lost in the lake so a few club members went today to try and see what they could find. Visibility was poor, as expected, so it was more of a finger tip search than a good look and the only thing found was a small feeder. They may do a return trip later in the year when the vis may be better.

It made for a different club trip that’s for sure!

Just a friendly reminder to all club members.
We have a committee meeting on Wednesday at 8pm before the pool session.
As always it’s open to all members and we’d love it if you could join us.

This evening’s quiz was won with a fabulous score of 26/31. The theme was classic British comedies and we scored 22/31 which saw us placed 3rd.

Next week we have a committee meeting before the pool session to which all members are welcome. Hope to see you there.

September is just around the corner so here are dates for your diary for the next month.

We have a committee meeting on the 9th; which will be at the pool, starting at 8pm. As always all members are welcome.

If you fancy a dive at all, please put it on the message board. The night dive at Stoney was a hit this month!

Tonight’s quiz was won with an impressive 29/32….and not by us. We thought we did ok with 26!

We’re back at the pool next week and return for a quiz in a fortnight.

Congratulations go to Chris Button on completing his 1* Diver. Here he is receiving his certificate from Dive Officer Chris.

We know he’s already started working towards his 2* Diver. Perfect weather at the moment to be doing some skills 😊 🤿

Following a generous gift to the club from a former member, Gareth, we had a paid for outing to Capernwray for some of our members. What a glorious day for diving it was too, although it was rather busy.

As an added bonus, a couple of members also made a good start to their 2-Star Diver qualification. Gotta love Capernwray ❤️
