Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, marking the anniversary of the creation of the world and the beginning of a ten-day period of prayer, self-reflection, and repentance.

Translated from Hebrew as the "head of the year," Rosh Hashanah begins the High Holy Days, which conclude ten days later with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement

Traditions and CustomsThe Shofar:
A ram's horn is blown in the synagogue to call people to a spiritual awakening.
Symbolic Foods: People eat apples dipped in honey, round challah bread, and pomegranates to express hope for a sweet and bountiful new year.
Tashlich: A ceremony where individuals symbolically cast their sins into a natural body of water using breadcrumbs.Greetings: People wish each other "L'shanah tovah" ("for a good New Year").
