A monolift is a specialized squat rack with swing-away hooks that let you unrack the bar without walking it out. You set your stance under the bar, lift, and the arms swing back—boom, you’re in position.
Uses:
Heavy squats (powerlifting, strongman)
Safety for max attempts
Training consistency with minimal walkout
Benefits:
Saves energy for the lift itself
Reduces risk of tripping or losing balance
Allows precise stance setup under heavy loads
Drawbacks:
Expensive and huge—needs dedicated space
Overkill for beginners or lighter training
No walkout practice, which some lifters still need for meets without monolifts
Bottom line? A monolift is a badass tool for serious squatters chasing big numbers, but it’s not essential for everyone.
