Pitch and Gym Speed Sesh

High mid-week loading (no mid-week game) - plenty of good food and sleep before the weekend.

My thoughts on online PT…

trains for functional strength and fitness longevity, which requires consistency, accurate exercise prescription and careful load management. He also works in a competitive industry demanding extreme energy output and focus.

He’s a high performance individual.

For this reason, Jack invests in HIMSELF and values my service. It’s more than JUST accountability and form correction. I work closely with Jack to manage his overall load (physical AND mental fatigue), periodise his programme (clear outcomes and goals) and, most importantly, to keep things FUN.

In this way, Jack enjoys both the present day and a long, successful fitness (and work) career.

For reference, I see Jack just once a month and work remotely with him the rest of the time. Arrangements are bespoke.

Details…

- Unilateral work for hip, knee and ankle power and stability
- Hip hinge RDLs to reduce the posterior load
- Bilateral hip thrusts for hip extension force production

Special focus on managing my axial load; football takes its toll on the spine and core.

Yes, I’m a PT in Manchester. I work with athletes and corporate professionals on joint alignment and stability.

But… I’m still a FOOTBALLER, so I need to practice.

Neck pain?

Not saying this is the cause or cure to YOUR problems but something worth considering.

THE AIM: conditioning the nervous system to coordinate and generate power.

Improved energy efficiency was NOT the goal.

REPS and REST?

If each step requires maximal output, how many steps and how much rest do you need to take per session for adaptation to occur?

Depending on your experience level, you should aim for between 40 and 200 high quality ‘foot contacts’ per session.

How many sprints is 40-200 steps?

Depending on your stride length, a TOTAL distance of 30-200 metres - broken down into sets of your chosen sprint distance - do the maths.

How much rest is required for high quality ‘foot contacts’?

It depends on the the sprint distance and your rate of recovery - aim for between 2 and 5 minutes.

Get out and train on the pitch - not just in the gym.
